China's oil demand is entering structural decline.
EVs put an end to China's usual holiday surge in gasoline use
Tianyu Jiang took a 2,000-km (1,200-mile) road trip this month during China's national holiday week, driving in his electric vehicle from the southwestern Sichuan basin to Beijing for the first time.

Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Fines and arrests didn’t work — Georgians still blocked Rustaveli Ave for 343 nights. Now, on day 344, police show up in huge numbers to physically prevent it. Here, protesters march on narrow Leonidze St, yet police only allow them a small slice of the road.

Now this is how you detect whether an election was stolen. Humans choose rounder numbers.

We are not aware of broadly available language+vision models in eg Chinese, are you?

Very interesting and timely for us. Did you also test this in a multimodal setting (vision grounding?)

Please, all in the conservation movement, do not do deals that simply favour your pet areas, in exchange for publicly endorsing @australianlabor.bsky.social's pathetic environmental law reform bill.

Demand the whole package is improved, back in the science!

If he doesn’t change course, the Prime Minister may end up leading exactly the kind of 'shadow government' that he derided his predecessor for.

Day 340 of daily #GeorgiaProtests, despite the regime jailing those who stand on the road (or get a face mask, the lack of which results in an EUR 1,700 fine too).

This @oilchange.bsky.social report into how Aus, Norway, the US and Canada are going hell-for-leather on oil and gas is pretty incredible.

This graphic stood out to me:

A horrific mass murder is unfolding in Sudan, where no one can see it. The RSF are murdering civilians in El Fasher, having finally defeated the Sudanese army forces holding out in the city. The BBC has managed to speak to some who escaped

NEW from me:

Political hostility, high visa fees and (in the case of the UK) stagnant incomes are making the UK and US less attractive destinations for top international talent.

That steep decline in the appeal of moving to the US after 2016 is 👀

hey @arc-tracker.bsky.social do you know of a time series graph for ARC budget? Even better, inflation adjusted... If not, will dig further...

Maybe some still embargoed for some sec issues?

Then they may all be co-authors, no? This is very common in eng or sci.

I think it fits best under research. But may be individual. I have supervised theses in Arts, and had to fight the system to be a named co-supervisor etc, and get credit.

Depends on Dept. Ours has complete transparency of workloads(🔥++👍), that is one killer excel sheet.

Yes/yes/yes/yes. Why else would you supervise. Even masters (incl coursework) theses do often copublished, require work, and count as research. Only course coordination counts as teaching workload.

Purely and exclusively research. Realistically, only research that gets done, and always is orioritised. May be typical for Eng and CIS. Every student gets min 1hr per week, fills easily a day+ (incl cosup) in mtngs only
