Radical Harmony: Helene Kröller-Müller’s Neo-Impressionists at the National Gallery is a terrific exhibit. Makes me want to revisit the Kröller-Müller, where I haven’t been in decades. I remember it as a beautiful setting.

Yes of course. But even the pretty well informed people I talk to have little understanding of the structural constraints of being in the minority. There are few tools to use. “Do something!” They yell. “What?” One asks. “I don’t know, just DO something!”

Upper hand? Dems had a bit of cog in the wheels.

I wish more people kind of knew what they were talking about when they do flash conclusions.

True, but looking at opensecrets doesn't look like donations distinguished how Dems voted.

Not the foliage, but the berries. Lloyd Park, Walthamstow.

luckily, it's make believe.

Politics more complicated than surface may seem.
REPHRASING THIS THREAD:

The FIRST PART of this is actually a good summary of what happened.

The first paragraph is important: A lot of people do indeed seem to be under the impression that ALL of the ACA tax credits are expiring.. They aren't. They're becoming FAR LESS GENEROUS. 1/
Now for some levity and logic based in facts.

First stipulate: I don’t like the cave. But. The long game of the R’s may be that they knew that any compromise means Ds would jump around wildly attacking their own party more effectively than the Rs could.

Not connected.

In the face of this “deal,” thinking about last week’s election feels like we’ll always have Paris.

I always believe Republican pinky promises to do something they are clearly opposed to doing.

This feels like a good time to remind everyone that budgets are moral documents

Them US House of Reps has only sat 87 times whilst Trump has signed 212 executive orders, 54 memoranda, and 104 proclamations since Jan 20th. America is no longer a functioning democracy.
House lawmakers have met and voted just 87 days so far in 2025
"People run for Congress in order to be able to, you know, come to the Capitol and legislate."

Looks like the "removal of statues etc is erasing history" folks are actually into doing those removals if the history being erased is the history of black people
Here are the two plaques that were removed. I am so ashamed of our racist current administration.

The gift shop, unfortunately, had a kind of limited range of Liberty tchotchkes. I was hopeful too.

The William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow is worth visiting. And the borough is also very interesting. Nice Sunday market. Had good Caribbean food.

Armistice Day, Walthamstow.

I miss the Hatch Act.

All of those churches who turned away the woman looking for formula to feed her hungry baby will soon be retelling the story of the pregnant woman who was turned away at the inn and forced to put her newborn baby in a manger.

OK. Great.

You can't blame a guy who really works hard at what he wants. In this case, of course, starving people.

Essential. Secret police is just not acceptable. Unless we love the tradition of night riders.

Make this un-quiet. Disgusting.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

If you're not familiar with Brumsic Brandon Jr., creator of long-running comic strip "Luther," here's a classic single panel by him from 1977
Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
