Retired political scientist in NH & Boston who still scholars. Also making believe I'm a historian, farmer, cook, baker. I do love democracy, knowing stuff, looking at art, listening to music. Current research: history of higher education in the U.S.
And now Jimmy Cliff too? Sad news. His memory and music are blessings.

It's a testament to the widespread incompetence of the Trump administration that the Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, is preoccupied with what passengers wear on planes rather than how many air traffic controllers there are to keep them safe, even if not in bespoke suits.

If we had a Department of War (which we don't) it would make sense, because the President of the United States regards as an enemy and subject to misconduct charges anyone who disagrees with him.
“The Department of War has received serious allegations of misconduct against Captain Mark Kelly, USN (Ret.).”

How long before the Supreme Court says they get to make illegal appointment of a prosecutor because Presidents can do whatever they want?

Trying to think of best advice to give one's son and DIL on the occasion of the upcoming birth of their first child, a son. Figured it out. Make sure that when you change his diaper you always hold a hand over his penis. That way he cannot piss all over you.

Until he's an adolescent.

Look, at least they translated the “peace plan” from the original Russian so more of us could read it.

Professor Noah Feldman was my classmate twice over. He is one of the more brilliant minds I have ever encountered. I love how he lays it plain here.

Certain kinds of men may feel freed from hiding their misogyny, especially Trump followers. But they will face women who are rather different from the pre-women's movement days. Especially those of us who lived through all that. We won't just smile and look embarrassed as in the "good old days."

Y'know, the fact that they backed off of saying swastikas and nooses are ok is not the tell. The fact that they said so in the first place, no matter how briefly, is.

So we’re pro-Nazi and pro- lynching? Good to know

Hey! Stop paying attention to that economist guy who used to be a university president. They got him. But he’s only one and just not important enough for your continuing attention.

The U.S. government is now inarguably spreading medical disinformation that is going to kill babies preferentially.

Period.

This is an INTOLERABLE. UNPRECEDENTED. DANGEROUS. ATTACK. ON ALL OF US.

Sad to hear of the death of Howard Martin, longtime leader of the UW-Madison Division of Continuing Studies. A very good man and ardent supporter of the Wisconsin Idea. I enjoyed working with him as Vice Provost and Interim Provost. May his memory be a blessing.

That they have lived with this trauma & pain for so long is truly heartbreaking. How anyone can support protecting the perpetrators any longer is hard to believe & a complete disgrace!

I mean, look, I'm not a reporter, so who am I to talk?

But on a day where the president both just called a woman reporter "Piggy" and is celebrating someone who had people bone saw apart one of my colleagues, I might just be a little ready to defend my colleagues and profession.

But that's just me

I agree. Things just happen. It’s so easy to find you’ve chopped up a journalist into lots of little bits. Good explanation, Trump.

Lovely, fast, quiet train trip from London to Oxford. So fortunate that in America we don’t have to suffer with good intercity rail in most places.

It does feel like we're all going insane. We *know* he's implicated in Epstein's abuse. He's lashing out, in a misogynistic way, when questioned about it. We know. Why isn't every news stations 24hour coverage of the president being a child abuser? It should be wall-to-wall

Dear ICE: They don't let you wear a mask in your mug shot.
Great news. This is what an ICE agent looks like in a mugshot. Meet Gerardo Rodriguez, 45, of Temecula, courtesy of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. Arrested for "illegally detaining a minor at gunpoint while off duty last week." 🧵
