The normative state vs the prerogative state in action, folks
According to my sources, the FBI was initially open to a concurrent investigation with the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (the state agency that would do this investigation).

Trumpy U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen heard about this and intervened, barring the FBI from cooperating with local police.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota investigators say they can't access evidence after fatal ICE shooting and FBI won't work jointly on probe.

I believe this is the prerogative state vs the normative state

Like Robespierre and Stalin, eventually they will eat their own.

It’s striking that calls for respect for the dead and their loved ones - and public shaming for non-compliance - were bipartisan with regard to Charlie Kirk and Rob Reiner.

But not for Renee Nicole Good

Ohio politics over the past 7 years is a tale of corruption, gutting public ed, abortion crackdowns, unleashing guns on the streets, tax cuts for the rich. And authoritarian consolidation as politicians use legal chicanery and lies to squash the opposition.

DeWine is term limited. Time to fire him
I went through the past 7 years of significant Ohio headlines. I put them all in one place. Just by reading the headlines all next to each other, year-by-year, it tells a story. And what a story. It really is worth checking out. It gives a great sense of how things have gone in Ohio since 2019.
New Editor Commentary: Ohio voters face major decisions in the 2026 Election about the future of our state. Before deciding where we go next, perhaps it's useful to consider where we've been. Here’s a look at significant headlines from the last seven years. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/01/08/o...

The show is also relevant insofar as it demonstrates the demonization of a highly competent civil servant by oligarchs

We just watched the new season of Wolf Hall — and man, bills of attainder are terrible — but at least you have to go through a parliament before you can execute someone.

Unlike ICE

They really are just gonna pocket the money aren’t they

Can’t help but think that if our fellow MAGA citizens can dehumanize a white mom in a Honda CRV, we are well beyond “first they came for the communists”

Scare everyone so much that hiding in the house looks like tacit consent

Big strong man needed to defeat scary foreigners

I guess the new election strategy is “go to war.” It leaves so many options for MAGA campaign managers:

Cancel elections bc “emergency”

Throw opposition in jail because “enemy within”

“Rally round the flag” browbeating

Corporate boards and their CEO scions face very little in the way of countervailing power. Proxy advisors were one such.

Now even this de minimus form of accountability is getting the DOGE treatment.
The threats that ISS and Glass Lewis face are potentially existential. But their absence would not relieve shareholders and companies. Challenging proxy firms to justify their views is healthy; bluntly tossing them aside would not be. www.ft.com/content/be75...

The firms are fallible, but they at least come with accountability

Where’s my (ex?) MAGA ladies who recently discovered that the male members of their movement are perfectly happy to dehumanize women victims— including them?

Oh wait

Why would folks who tell despicable lies about the women they raped not also tell despicable lies about the woman they shot in the face.

It’s the slumlord theory of international relations

You learn it in POLS 4046 at Harvard
JD Vance: "The way that we control Venezuela is we control the purse strings, we control the energy resources. And we tell the regime, 'You're allowed to sell the oil so long as you serve America's national interests.'"
