I’m watching the Pop Tarts Bowl. Not because I care about the game, but because I need to see what crazy shit the Pop Tart is going to do during half-time.

I appreciate what he did, but this is unlikely to be a free speech thing. I doubt his contract with them allowed for cancellation for any reason, so he probably is in breach of contract.

I was wondering the other day what his contract says. Presumably he would only be allowed to cancel for certain reasons. A million sure sounds like a lot, though, but he must’ve known he had legal jeopardy by doing this (and if so, even more kudos to him for taking a stand).

I hate having our government run by awful people.

If I had a dollar for every British astrophysicist named Brian who put their career on hold to join a chart-topping pop group and then successfully pivoted back to astrophysics, I’d have two dollars, which isn’t much but it’s weird that it’s happened twice www.nytimes.com/2025/12/27/w...

Tariffs as a % of GDP are at the highest level in more than 100 years amidst Trump's trade war—even though tariff rates are still lower than in the 1930s, they have a much higher impact because trade volumes are much larger than in the past

Seriously, whoever said “Let’s take a bowl game sponsored by a popular food item and make it have the most ridiculous, insane, and debased mascot at a level Gritty can only dream of” deserves a FIFA Peace Prize.

Sometimes, I wonder why I love college football, and then I get the greatest of reminders.
Happy Pop-Tarts Bowl Day to all who celebrate

I was also wondering though how that compares to pass through for other taxes where much of the statutory incidence is on the supply side like corporate taxes and FICA

I have a bunch of intersecting thoughts here but basically 1) excessive alcohol consumption is an urban activity, 2) we shouldn’t legalize drunk driving and 3) we should more heavily penalize parents whose kids abuse alcohol in such a drastic fashion.

Also I originally read this as Stancil and the entirety of posters on “X” and was like “yeah, that checks out”.

Dammit. You already took mine.

If they don’t all go out there in full armor and say the line from Gladiator, then what are we even doing here?
A call and a raise

That actually is incredible. A whole new use for GS I had no idea existed.

That’s rather amazing - 94% pass through. I don’t know the literature so maybe this is normal for incidence on supplier based taxes, but it certainly destroys any argument about anyone other than consumers suffering the effects of tariffs.
Actual 2025 tariff rates are, to date, far less than statutory rates, but the costs of the tariffs are mostly borne by the US – estimated tariff pass-through to US prices in 2025 is 94%. Tariffs on imports act like a 1 to 2pp tax on US manufacturing. brentneiman.com/research/GN2...

She finally remembered that she wants to run for President.

And it gets really painful when the kids are old enough to start having opinions. Last year I had a flyout someplace and the mere possibility of moving when discussing brought my younger one to tears.
I had missed this. Perverse even by the standards of the Trump White House. They’re threatening to pull student aid from Brown over the shooting www.nbcboston.com/news/local/t...
Trump administration investigates Brown's security after shooting
The Department of Education said its Office of Federal Student Aid would investigate if Brown University violated the Higher Education Act in connection with the deadly shooting on Dec. 13.

Russia attacked Ukraine with 500 drones and around 40 missiles, including Kinzhal missiles. The main strike targeted #Kyiv, hitting energy facilities and civilian infrastructure.

The Russian attack left nearly one third of Kyiv without heating.

Pfft. His mother would’ve just glided across the entire floor in one move.
Y’all might not appreciate it, but it took him 87 moves and 14 hours to get here

You really should try a resolution you have a chance of sticking to.

I’ve moved about a half dozen times in my life. Each time gets harder and more expensive. It’s exhausting and you have to rebuild your social networks! It’s got to be orders of magnitude more difficult to move a business with many employees.
the reason you get a bunch of these “people thinking about leaving” pieces but then nobody much leaves isn’t sinister imo.

it’s that it’s very very easy to think about moving, but actually moving is an enormous pain in the ass
Billionaires are considering cutting or reducing their ties to California by the end of the year because of a proposed ballot measure that could tax the state’s wealthiest residents.

I can’t really sympathize with the complaints. What other form of entertainment gets you 50+ hours of content for under $80? That’s the equivalent of paying $3.20 for a 2 hour movie.
What these people are doing to the power of calling out real antisemitism, in an incredibly dangerous time of surging global antisemitism….man, it is just so worrisome
