Trump says the people who “thought Epstein was the greatest guy on earth, only to drop him like a dog when things got too HOT” are “sleazebags.”

Trump is criticizing people who…stopped hanging out with Jeffrey Epstein?
Merry Christmas!

The President of Peace just bombed Nigeria.

I don't think all Farage supporters are in poverty, or that all people in poverty are Farage supporters. Too easy just to buy their framing.

I think this exchange has finally clarified for me what my objections to using X are in one word: collaboration. Yes, using X plays only a modest role in supporting an authoritarian RW project. But then there's so little cost in no longer using it.

A lot of people left X for exactly that reason. There's no point expecting them not to keep making the point.

This is the centre left argument for the monarchy - as a bulwark against a RW populist president Farage etc

If you prefer the Nazi bar, just stay there. But don't pretend for a second that this gives you the moral high ground.
When the history of this cruel era is written, the shame should be no less than the shame we now feel about the roundups and detention of Japanese Americans in World War II. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/the-brazen-cruelty-of-the-trump-regime
Merry Christmas! Michelle and I hope you have a wonderful holiday filled with light and joy.

Happy Hogswatch to all who celebrate. Ho! Ho! Ho!
Here’s the U.S. government being officially religious in a country with no official religion.
Kyiv is celebrating Christmas. Residents of the capital gathered for caroling on St. Michael’s Square.

I’m genuinely so happy that at least part of our country can gather like this - all thanks to the people defending us this Christmas.

I have other things to do on Christmas day than get angry about historical opt outs or budget disputes (which were not unique to the UK)🎁
i post this story every christmas, and will keep doing so until it stops making me cry

merry christmas xx
A real Good Samaritan
One act of kindness that befell Leeds writer Bernard Hare in 1982 changed him profoundly. Here he tells his story.

You spectacularly generous people have raised £13k so far. We have a beyond-excited three year old likely to wake us at 5am, so it’s an early night here. I’ll have to catch up with the pix in the morning ♥️ #DuvetKnowItsChristmas

Similarly, a student once quoted me as making an argument for a proposition which I refuted in the next sentence. AI use? Reading comprehension issue? Bad faith? (I doubt the latter as regards the student, who was writing an essay to be marked, not selling a book/exciting a RW base)

Love that my tweet gets posted every year! Also, our proof of concept for this (Double Happiness) is screening at Lincoln Center on Jan. 27!
Trump: We track Santa. We want to make sure that Santa is being good. We want to make sure that he's not infiltrated, that we're not infiltrating into our country a bad Santa. Santa loves Oklahoma like I do. You know, Oklahoma was very good to me in the election
Also: I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

Publishing, let me write a media literacy book, I am begging you. I keep being told that there's no appetite for this...

But how can there NOT be, when it's an urgent and pressing issue, especially with how we aggregate news + use of AI?

Kyiv on Christmas Eve.

I film these moments to show you our strength.
We haven’t lost our spirit in this long war.
Fine, whatever, this random cat is your new god of the winter solstice
JUST IN: CBS’s Kennedy Center Honors just hit an all-time ratings low. Preliminary Nielsen data shows only ~2.65M viewers tuned in to the Trump-hosted show, down from 4.1M in 2024. A stunning 35% year-over-year collapse.
Unbelievably, #DuvetKnowItsChristmas generates such good will on social media that over the years we've raised somewhere approaching a quarter of a million quid for homeless charities. If you can spare a bob or two, sling some to Centrepoint, and here's the link: www.gofundme.com/f/duvet-know...

This is the 15th year of #DuvetKnowItsChristmas, which is preposterous. Rules: if you find yourself dealing with unusual / claustrophobic / gaudy sleeping arrangements this Christmas Eve, share a picture with the world. Use the hashtag (with capitalisation) and cc me if you can be bothered.
A small (personal) example of this book’s intellectual dishonesty:

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Huh? When did I say that?!

Bari Weiss just sent this Christmas Eve email to the CBS News staff about "building trust," which includes her tripling down on spiking the CECOT piece "to make sure it's comprehensive and fair."

One CBS staffer tells me: "She really has no idea how insulting she comes across."
