I think that is right, although I also firmly believe that this is something governments on the right are happy to let happen. The fact that this isn't treated as an emergency says a lot--and perhaps that a pox on all governments. But either way, the public system is on serious crutches right now.

I'm always amazed the way Conservatives rehabilitate their worst leaders. Mulroney left office disgraced and destroyed his party. Yet today Conservatives hold him up as one of the great elites of the 20th century. We're seeing the same thing today on Harper.
