A thread…
There are so many elements that have made his ascension possible: co-opted corporate media; social media’s unregulated environment; the overwhelm from the sheer number of misdeeds; coordinated foreign interference; destruction of K-12 education; racist grievance culture; unchecked gross inequity.

The hair, the makeup and the wardrobe are bizarre and ridiculous. I’m sucked in but this character is just a total sore thumb.

Seemed like an extra from the Downton Abbey series taking place in the 30s or whatever. Just ridiculous.

I love his character.

I’m watching Dept. Q and having some trouble getting into it, at the end of episode two. The woman who runs the group home (?) is so over the top that it borders on comical. The characters of Merritt and Carl are so unlikable. Does it get better?

“How can you guys recognize me without my mask?!”

Just asking questions.

The Atlantic is such trash.

Pope Leo XIV during his first Christmas Day homily remembered the people of Gaza “exposed for weeks to rain, wind and cold” and said the world’s many conflicts can only be silenced through dialogue. Leo led the Christmas Day Mass from the central altar beneath the balustrade of St. Peter’s Basilica.

Having a normal Christmas morning

It could be worse than where it is, knock on wood. But also: fuck.

Wonder how many Angelenos are learning where their ceilings are compromised atm. (I am.)

Yessss! I’ve been meaning to check it out! Thank you!

Other than slow horses, what’s out there that’s in the same vein as Down Cemetery Road? I imagine that will be hard to equal, what with the cast and production value.

A dead-end world? The East End boys and West End girls?

ICE agent recognized out Christmas shopping—throws tantrum when citizens profile him.

"We're trying to prevent you from kidnapping our neighbors," they say.

"I'm not doing anything but walking, leave me alone!" he yells.

"Not right now you're not—but the past 5 days you have."

Swap the words “likely to degrade in quality over time and exposure to elements” to the shorthand I used and please stop mansplaining audio to me. Please. Okay? I’m not in the mood.

Many.

I have a Sony digital music player I picked up a few years ago that is nice. I wish I had never gotten rid of my minidisc setup, although Sony really hampered that format’s uptake.

I lost the majority of my CD collection some years ago when a company that stored and ripped them went out of business but I did keep some of my most important ones at home.

Please don’t.

Fucking shameless.

wtf is a “west end condo,” just as a small question.

Of course cassette tape is lossy, and yes, so is vinyl. MP3 is not the only digital sound format.

I like the return of DIY cassettes from small artists as a means of distribution, but I won’t wax romantic about the quality. Of course, I spent an inordinate amount of time in my youth creating mixtapes for transferring my vinyl to cassette and copying the typography from the album cover to match.

“They’re sick of giant corporations, algorithmic playlists, and AI slop. Artists are tired of platforms that pay them virtually nothing, by degenerate billionaires that see all human creativity as interchangeable aesthetic wallpaper, valued only for its ability to make numbers go up.”

As a Gen Xer, I am never going to believe in the supremacy of a lossy format like a cassette tape. It was always secondary to my vinyl collection, but did allow me to transport that collection. That said, I’m totally with this sentiment. Ask, or don’t ask about my vinyl, CD and DVD collections.
Why I Quit Streaming And Got Back Into Cassettes
In the age of Spotify and AI slop, tapes remind us what we’re missing when we stop taking risks.

Bari Weiss just sent this Christmas Eve email to the CBS News staff about "building trust," which includes her tripling down on spiking the CECOT piece "to make sure it's comprehensive and fair."

One CBS staffer tells me: "She really has no idea how insulting she comes across."
I'd be delighted to have a hairstylist or a youth soccer coach visit for a night
