I don’t mean this as shade to the migrants at all who have found themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place but it was always clear that the plan was never to actually pay them
I’ve been worried about this. People who signed up for a US ‘self-deportation’ scheme say their payoffs were delayed, misdirected or never arrived – leaving them empty-handed in their home countries.
‘They tricked me’: Migrants were promised $1,000 to voluntarily leave the US. Some never received it

Yes. Unfortunately.
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.
I don’t mean to sound extreme, but I don’t think we should have torture camps for people with criminal records either.

This is the 60 minutes segment on CECOT that Bari Weiss has sought to suppress at CBD because she thinks the media should not cover stories that make the Trump administration look bad—which is the literal definition of fascism. Let’s make sure she fails by sharing this as widely as possible.

All the cavorting these national "founders" did with our enslaved ancestors SHOWS they knew full damned well that *they were just as human as they were!*

They enslaved their own blood kin! Infuriating.

That mindset is just evil. And it was (and is) the founding mindset of the United States.

Conversely, lots of things that are AI often do not get recognized as such.

As an example from this semester, a student told me that a professor banned the use of AI and then suggested they use grammarly to edit their writing.
Wildly different things, tasks, techniques, subspecialties being lumped into "AI" and then being conflated with each other, doesn't help. Different types of models vs the techniques to train them vs the tasks they are supposed to accomplish, all under "AI".

CBS paid the president of the United States millions in bribe money and now they censor news reports so it does not annoy him. I don’t know how much plainer we can put this.

The whole “only x percent of college professors are republicans” being treated as evidence of the supposed lack of ideological diversity at universities is so misleading. Most programs have quite a bit of epistemological, methodological & content diversity. Partisanship is irrelevant to most fields.
So Bari Weiss’s first real editorial intervention at CBS is to repress coverage of American concentration camps.

This type of study that denies marginalized people effective treatments is literally why research ethics boards were developed

Curious about what in the self-loathing is going on with Usha Vance to be married to a man who so openly seems to resent that she isn’t white. She’s where she wants to be but I sure want to know what pathology allows that.

What season of the reboot of House of Cards is this?
These people all go to rich people megachurches so they have no idea how freaky this looks to normal people

When there is a new trend we don’t like there is the tendency to romanticize the past—in this past romanticizing the pre-AI past as a time where people read thoroughly and cited responsibly. As somebody who has been cited as saying the opposite of what I said pre-AI I can say that was n95 the case.

I am seeing alot of discourse about AI and citation practices. I agree with the assertion that people should read articles they are citing rather than rely on AI summaries. I also think sloppy citation practices are not new. Over-reliance on AI did not create the problem even as it may amplify it.

Harvard’s PR people have managed to frame it as the leading defender of academic freedom even as it blatantly destroys any semblance of academic freedom as it relates to Palestine. But here is the thing. If scholars focused on Palestine don’t have academic freedom at Harvard, nobody does.
Earlier this year, I had to withdraw a publication on genocide hours before it was to be published due to senior Harvard administrators’ threats to my Harvard-employed coauthor. Last week, they fired Mary Bassett for refusing to ignore Palestine. My response:

That’s the thing man. If they are to be taken at their word the only takeaway is that there should be no black people in any job any other white person wants. One quick Google search for any of these jobs would show there are usually one or two minorities are best in a unit of 20 or 30 or more.
UAlbany, one of those, NY state universities, has been hovering around 4 percent tenure track Black faculty since ever. I am THE Black tenure track political scientists. These folks are just little liars.
You’ll never guess who else experienced ‘racism’ on the job market despite their unimpeachable academic credentials.
