What happened to everyone who was super concerned about technology companies being the "arbiter of truth"? You're good with the AI system that Musk keeps personally tweaking because he doesn't like its answers providing official health advice???

If you know the moral thing for an organization to do, feels important to state it, even if you recognize that the org likely won't do it. We should recognize the way that powerful orgs historically capitulated to censorship and suppression. Shame only works when we remember the transgressions.

In her latest column, @bakerdphd.bsky.social looks at the history of AAU regarding campus free speech. If they took a stance on many key issues today, some status-obsessed public universities would face very difficult membership decisions.
