Delightful!
Have a wonderful Christmas with friends, family, pets, or even the delight of a quiet, solitary day reading books and eating lovely food by the fire.

Oil on board. A winter scene from the Ridgeway near Upham Village in Wiltshire.

I bought the pants that were requested! I held up my end!🤣

And Tiny Tim came back the very next day. Tiny Tim came back, we thought he was a goner
But Tiny Tim came back; he just couldn’t stay away.

Lol played myself. Guess who did not get the socks she asked for (or any socks at all)

(there were other lovely presents... just not socks)
Being in your 40s is being genuinely excited to get the socks you asked for for Christmas and also preparing yourself for disappointment if the person you asked forgot you ever had the discussion.
And we have a white Christmas. It’s summer ffs!
"Even after accounting for the upfront costs and delayed benefits, enrolling marginal applicants to public universities generates substantial net returns for society, the marginal students themselves, and the government budget."

Public Universities FTW!
I just said this on a group chat, and I want to say it here to every one of you who writes book: Don't neg your book.
Ötzi and a 45,000-year-old Siberian were both infected with a cancer-causing strain of HPV.
This is fascinating, and a reminder that we have a vaccine that *prevents cancer* and everyone eligible should get it.
Two ancient humans, including famed ‘Iceman,’ had cancer-causing virus
Findings from ancient DNA may shed light on HPV’s history in our species

Zotero should do this

You made a nice stack with these seven unread books and moved this particularly thick one to three different piles
If there was an academia wrapped it would say: ‘you read these articles, those abstracts, half of this book, a third of that one, maybe a chapter from this…’

My dad's whole side of the family are what we call "glass magnetic" - glass objects throw themselves off counters and shelves around us, shatter explosively, etc.

Loudly enough to scare the cats

We cleaned the floor and just closed the rest in the dishwasher to deal with in the morning

Rounding out a long day of cooking by shattering the slow cooker lid half inside the dishwasher and half across the kitchen floor

It's not ghosts, but i definitely got lightly hazed by a museum curator who had me following her all around the storage magazine carrying a small, sealed container of murky liquid that she later told me held the preserved testicle of their local bog body

This is me and literally every meeting with a European. I only give them their own timezone now! 😅😅

In order to reliably schedule meetings, i usually have to tell my foreign colleagues what time i can be available in their timezone since almost no one outside Australia seems capable of doing the calculations right themselves 😅😅🫠
A lot of you don't have to calculate time zones within your own country and it shows.
The map's form: bubbles
It shows: things to do with death
Its purpose: ornamental

Here’s an idea for the PM: try to understand that the vast majority of Australians don’t like ANY extreme violence against civilians - whether at Bondi or in Gaza - and have the right to say so.
