"He essentially said, 'I’m not going to hide who I am to make you comfortable.' In doing so Mamdani delivered a raciolinguistic reality check that refuses the idea that politicians of color need to translate themselves into whiteness to be viable."

Zohran Mamdani Just Gave American Politics a Raciolinguistic Reality Check
Zohran Mamdani just won the New York City mayoral race, and it’s a big deal for reasons that will no doubt be dissected for years to come. But what really stands out to me is how this moment shifts…

The whole “people dying because of lack of health care in red states will be good for the midterm elections” shows how deeply cynical our national politics has become

I am old enough to remember when those of us arguing that health care shouldn’t be a for profit industry and that we should have medicare for all were called socialists

Yes and the researcher making this claim is also knowingly engaging in shoddy research that is misrepresenting the data which actually suggests the opposite trend: www.them.us/story/eric-k...
The Cornell AAUP chapter has consistently stated that any deal with the Trump administration would be strategically unwise and a betrayal of Cornell’s principles. This remains the case. At best, we can say that this deal could have been worse.

There is something deeply broken about an economy that creates trillionaires while people get buried under the cost of living and 42 million go hungry. The ultra-rich should realize that my Billionaires Income Tax, aimed at ensuring they pay their fair share, represents the moderate path forward.

It is so funny how those trying to dismiss Mamdani’s win are insisting “of course the Democrat won in New York City” which somehow overlooks the fact that 2 of the last 4 mayors were Republicans (Giuliani) or Republicans who later became Independents (Bloomberg)

In my latest blog post I contrast @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social rhetorical style with @barackobama.bsky.social style suggesting a shift in how politicians of color position themselves that offers a possible new path of resistance to Trump’s fascism

So who is going to get fired for this massive mistake?

If Schumer & Jeffries have been hostile to his camapign, it's because Mamdani’s ability to raise millions on an explicitly anti-corporate message represents a direct threat to the entire fundraising machinery that sustains Democratic Party leadership. /1

The two major future directions that Dems have are reflected in the NYC mayoral election: (1) they could develop a populist attack from the Left like Mamdani or (2) they could cozy themselves up to fascists in the name of public safety
It's uncanny how Cuomo has been laser-focused at appealing to the absolute worst qualities in people - their insularity, their tribalism, and now their fear. A campaign monumental in its cynicism, a colossal bet by this man and his billionaire backers that people are basically bad.
This isn't a closing election argument, it's Vidkun Quisling explaining why surrender is better than resistance.

Right. Federal funds are not Trump’s personal bank account that he can just spend however he wants. It is OUR money and we may need to remind him of that
New York state should stop sending federal taxes to the regime.

In case you were wondering why so-called centrists are so ineffective in resisting Trump it is because deep down they want us to listen to him
"The president is right: a vote for Sliwa is a vote for Mamdani," Cuomo says on 77WABC radio in response to Trump's words of support just posted on Truth Social.

"Now it's gonna be up to the Republicans, and I hope they listen to the president," he adds.

A few days after the presidential election one year ago, we went to Fordham Road in the Bronx.

It was a little different last week.

Trump is literally trying to extort New Yorkers to vote for his preferred mayoral candidate by keeping their taxpayer money from them as if it were his own personal bank account and the media is just talking about it as it it is business as usual.

Cuomo is a textbook case of how white dudes, regardless of their initial political affiliation will always revert to racism and misogyny when POC and/or women threaten their hold on power
On MSNBC Cuomo said "diversity can be a weakness." When asked by one of the two Black hosts (Eugene) to clarify, he doubled down on his statement and called Eugene "Jonathan."

So Cuomo is anti-diversity & can't tell Black people apart.🤔

Honestly the best anti-Cuomo ads are just letting Cuomo speak

We live in times when a NYC city mayoral candidate is being demonized for daring to run on a platform of making housing more affordable while POTUS is proposing to create literal concentration camps
Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

A major political problem in the US is that white people are the primary beneficiaries of the government social safety net but are convinced that they receive no government support.

The fact that anybody can just casually donated more money than maybe people will make their entire working life to try to sway an election away from a candidate whose sole platform is about affordability is precisely why are democracy is so broken

Perhaps even more ironic is when researchers and advocates working in dual language programs use the term emergent bilingual to refer only to students classified as English Learners when literally all of the students in the program could be described that way.
