Note how all the fossil fuel requirements in Inflation Reduction Act were written into statute, like it literally says six lease sales in the Cook Inlet over 10 years.. and most of the renewable energy and climate implementation in the IRA relied on rule-making and agency discretion.
These lease sales are required under the Big Beautiful Bill. The last Cook Inlet sale in 2022 was mandated by the Inflation Reduction Act; that one was overturned under the national environmental policy act. Now we’ll see what happens with a weaker NEPA. www.marinelog.com/offshore/boe...

In a rare case of Substack notes usefulness, I just learned that Sarah Kendzior (author of They Knew and a brilliant writer) got bounced from Bluesky. What the hell? new @sarahkendzior.bsky.social

They already gutted their geography program - where students acquired excellent GIS skills and there was good work on natural resource management, so this isn't completely surprising, but it is still scary.

What scares me is: 1) the size of the department - it is not small by my standards, 14-16 faculty members depending how you count, includes meteorology; 2) the fact that the state requires geologists to be licensed; 3) geology alumni tend to be very active and generous (as the thread makes clear).

Spring registration has started, and enrollment looks good for one of my spring classes, Environmental Policy (recently rechristened RollerCoaster). Once again, it’s gonna be loads of fun and checking the news up to the night before I teach any major law/policy.

Yes but the question is whether your would do it at maximum alpha speed.
an underrated part of this turducken of garbage is Elon posting an image of the Odyssey while discussing the Iliad, but it's all so terribly, terribly pathetic
*maximum alpha at 1.25x speed* continuously lives on in my head, unfortunately.

Since Brexit referendum (2016) UK GDP has fallen between 6% and 8%. Unclear whether and when it will fully recover.

She was SO BAD. They caved for nothing and cannot even come up with a plausible story as to why. She needs to go.

The word salad that Cortez Masto is regurgitating on NPR right now to justify her vote last night is truly trumpian in its nonsense levels.

Really hoping against my better judgment that this gif isn’t about to get a lot of play.

If they cave, it reinforces my sense that the real problem with the democrats is not “wokeness,” but the fact that they don’t stand for anything and are willing to fight for nothing.

You know it's higher admin-produced slop b/c the cohorts (Foundational AI, Applied AI & Responsible AI and Cybersecurity) are super vague. They don't care how the hires will fit w/ existing campus expertise/needs. In other words, it's the opposite of strategic - just the crassest opportunistic move.
