I launched a new show yesterday: a musical debate/conversation show called "Summer Album / Winter Album." Here's an excerpt of my conversation with Craig Finn (Hold Steady) and Kevin Morby about the genius of Modest Mouse. Full episode is out wherever you get podcasts! youtu.be/cGeIYPtwaMg

With the awful WaPo layoffs and the state of journalism more broadly, if it's useful for any writers and reporters considering going indy, @molly.wiki, @xoxogossipgita.bsky.social of Aftermath, @jasonkoebler.bsky.social of 404 Media, @edzitron.com and me will do a little workshop next week.

Okay, we've got a serious Alternate-Side-Suspension streak going here. By my count, if you parked your car on Monday afternoon, Jan 12th, in a Monday-cleaning spot... between the snow and holidays, you're not slated to have to move it until Feb 23rd. That's six weeks!

I'll say.

After a trial over the last few years, Ireland has launched a permanent scheme giving a basic income of €325 a week for artists.

2,000 will be eligible, and successful recipients will be chosen at random from applicants, who must be "professional artists" (definition tbc).

First season of Search Party was an absolute revelation. Super sharp, extremely watchable. Also loved that in future seasons it... went places.
I hope lots of new people discover Search Party now that it's on Netflix!!!! I had nothing to do with making that show but I like it so much!

Call me old fashioned but I'm of the opinion that the first ad of the Super Bowl (for SCREAM) shouldn't be one that will give everyone under the age of 15 nightmares for weeks.

Within 15 minutes, they raised $58,000 for local food pantry VEAP. Within an hour, $100,000.
