Suspect they view just "Star Trek" as shorthand for "futuristic"/"The Future", i.e. "starships, robots, etc."

They really want a future like most sci-fi (The Jetsons, Futurama, RoboCop, etc.), where the cool tech exists, but modern American-style capitalism's worst aspects are front and center.
