An oppressive, tenuous peace would not be the product of clever diplomacy and well-crafted “guarantees.” It would instead be a product of Ukrainian desperation and Western betrayal: one for which we will pay down the road.

"It is logically impossible to simultaneously be evil, corrupt, and incompetent" is an absolutely amazing take to have in the year of 2025

Hitler/theocracy shit. Trump administration declared that trans people and anything the admin believes "goes against God and nature" is destroying the nation from within, and that the "root of all the evils" the US faces is hatred for what they say their God dictates is the one true way.

Last year Michael Knowles of the Daily Wire got on stage at CPAC and said we need to be eradicated from public life.

The DOJ is weighing putting out bounties on trans “extremists” ( trans people and allies)

In an HHS press conference last week we were called the root of all evil in this country.

Tell that to the commenters under any article that talks even neutrally about trans people who are actively calling to erase us.

All of these bootlegged copies of the 60 Minutes segment flooding my feed (saying, ‘Watch it quick! Before it disappears!’) makes me feel like I’m in the Soviet Union and just got some black market foreign newspaper I need to hide under a floorboard in my house.

This is where America is now

"This isn’t a moment. It’s not a wave. It’s not another corporate reckoning destined to fade. It’s an epoch — a new media world taking shape exactly where legacy media refused to look. And if history has taught us anything, it’s this: Either we learn the lesson now — or admit we never intended to."

"Fear is not a strategy. If institutions won’t build what communities need, communities will — like they always have. Maybe that’s the point."

Excellent read.
The reality is stark: If the advertising market, venture capital, and legacy institutions won’t invest in truth-tellers, then communities must invest in — and support — one another.

Trump's acting head of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency was trying access to the agency’s most sensitive, need-to-know information for no good reason. He was denied access initially. He then took a polygraph as is typically required and failed.

For years now, moderates have decried the division of identity politics of Democrats, ignoring of course that the Republican Party was defined by identity politics itself — the identity of whiteness. Now that it’s explicit the inability to call it out and to cover it aptly is starkly disappointing.
