Amazing how consistent these findings are and how the academy still does not change. When I am on hiring or promotion committees I always aim to bring this up at the start. Good reminder during PhD application reviews, too. Letters are so persuasive and we know those also differ by gender/race.

A donor in Maryland is paying off the debt of about 82,000 meals for low-income students.

This has flown below the radar, but it’s a low-key outrage that Trump’s FDA has withdrawn the rule to regulate asbestos in talc products. It’s the opposite of making America healthy.

I'm also in wait-and-see mode on the effects of caps on grad student loans.

My big questions are:
(1) Can the private market scale up in time?
(2) Do students even want private loans?
(3) Will grad programs change admissions practices?

To better understand how universities are planning ahead, Inside Higher Ed reached out to 20 of the largest graduate programs in the nation. Most did not respond. Those that did emphasized a mix of increased corporate engagement and expanded loan options, among other measures. One citizen said that federal agents in Idaho pointed guns at her children, ages 6 and 8, and dragged her 14-year-old daughter out of a truck and zip-tied her.
