My goal is to fill the starter pack, so please send over suggestions with supporting evidence!

The 6 Rs who crossed the aisle to block Trump's Canada tariffs:
Thomas Massie
Don Bacon
Brian Fitzpatrick
Jeff Hurd
Kevin Kiley
Dan Newhouse

Jared Golden (D) voted with the Republicans to maintain them.
Incredible that this many Republicans are still backing Trump on this wildly unpopular policy.
They'll now have to do it again after Trump vetoes and an override vote is held.
Just generating mountains of votes for midterm ads.

Anyways, today is a good day to become @thexylom.com's member. As WaPo abandons its international coverage, the responsibility of reporting from Sudan to Ukraine will fall to indie outlets like ours.

I just want to keep my job and not have to self-deport by the end of 2026:

Let me offer one data point: @thexylom.com's January readership grew by 76% YoY. Since we don't place ads, we are growing our audience purely by word-of-mouth.

However, Google did not renew its support last fiscal year, and we completely exhausted our reserves. I don't know how long we can survive.
A combination of capitalism, corporate media failures, and anti-journalism propaganda has convinced a lot of people that journalists exist to turn a profit. They no longer seem to realize that the purpose of journalism is for them, the people.

There are literally more surveillance cameras in Atlanta (124.14 per 1000 people) than people aged 65 and over (123 per 1000 people) according to the 2024 U.S. Census population estimates
Why should you care about the ACPC's financial crisis, even?

1. Atlanta is the most surveilled city in the *world* outside China, with one camera per EIGHT people.
2. "Cop City" protestors were hit with RICO charges for 1st Amendment-protected activities such as handing out flyers and mutual aid.

Especially bad news for Atlantans, but also bad news for all of us and democracy. As more and more cities become increasingly unreported, ordinary corruption has an ever more open field into which to cohere into local authoritarianisms, rippling out and up.
Even more bad news for Atlanta local journalism: @atlpresscollective.com, which has extensively covered "Cop City", ICE, and Flock cameras, and a finalist for the @inn.org Insight Award for Visual Journalism, announced today that they have run out of cash to stay open beyond the end of March.

That anger, however, is also hurting outside groups doing critical work — and that could hurt us in November.
