That but also the magnitude of his fall as well as the perverse joy in the semi ironic rehabilitation is also somewhat due to finally getting some distance from GWOT being all consuming & Great Powers concerns only recently being taken so seriously again.

Thanks for the uncommonly reasonable conversation!

“If we could push a button,” Mr. Pretti said, “we’d have Alex back with us.”

“When they saw the video of their son’s death, the Prettis said they saw their son’s character showing through.

“His last act on this earth, his last thought, was to help this woman,” his father said.

“It’s who he was, every day,” his mother said. “He’s the same Alex he always was.”

Fair enough. I do think it's if anything more pointless to tell Stancil to ignore people, however. That's just not who he is.

If dozens of people were spending their time discussing how the bad faith dogpiling and endless harassment of Stancil was making their own user experience worse instead of telling Stancil to ignore it, the scope of the problem might be more apparent to the team?

I won't pretend that I don't agree that's probably the situation, but I do wonder if the people (and there are quite a few of them) who reply to Stancil telling him to block these accounts instead tried directing the complaints to the moderation team if something wouldn't come of it?

I'm confused as to why you think Will should be the one policing the behaviors that seem to be better addressed by platform level moderation? This actually isn't Will's personal private forum, it's a social media platform positioning itself as a better alternative to Twitter, Threads, et al.

NEW: The F.D.A. refused to accept an application from Moderna for its mRNA flu vaccine.

Its reason: The agency did not think Moderna compared the new vaccine to one of the best flu shots available. The company spent $750M+ on a 41,000 person study.

Dismantling USAID & cancelling >80% of aid caused ~750,000 deaths by mid-2025

🧸Most were children
⌛️ Many died within the first year

😰 Preventable deaths were mainly from:
- HIV, TB, malaria
- Maternal & fetal deaths
- Malnutrition
