“the withering of public health might not anticipate a future apocalypse so much as it recalls a previous America, one where lives were cheaper and shorter, where good health was the province of a privileged few…”

"These agents, and the president who sent them, are no one’s heroes, no one’s saviors—just men with guns who have to hide their faces to shoot a mom in the face, and a nurse in the back."

-Adam Serwer, in The Atlantic

"No application of armed violence can make the men with guns as heroic as the people who choose to stand in their path with empty hands in defense of their neighbors.

"Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about 'Western civilization,' while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.

"No matter how many more armed men Trump sends to impose his will on the people of Minnesota, all he can do is accentuate their valor.

"Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive—because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority.

"The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave.

"Every social theory undergirding Trumpism has been broken on the steel of Minnesotan resolve. The multiracial community in Minneapolis was supposed to shatter. It did not. It held until Bovino was forced out of the Twin Cities..."

So very sorry for this terrible loss

The heartbreak is that we all know those nurses: the ones who don’t compartmentalize to the hospital, but are always caring for the people around them.
Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

White. Hot. Rage.

“I don’t like established science,” he said, adding “science is what I observe.”

Seems like this post is bound to show up as an exhibit in one of the cases challenging ICE/Border Control enforcement actions.

In case anyone is still unclear, a tariff is a tax on imports and in practice American consumers pay most of it through higher prices

Please elaborate!
Thank you, @jeremyfaust.bsky.social, for this public service; we have all wanted to see the protocol of this deeply unethical trial being funded by RFK Jr in Guinea-Bissau, I’m grateful you obtained it and have published it

Scoop: The leaked protocol of the CDC-funded Hepatitis B vaccine trial in Guinea-Bissau. “This is another Tuskegee.”
The protocol reveals that the trial will withhold the Hepatitis B birth dose from thousands—without placebos, without universal maternal screening, and with endpoints critics call indefensible.

Okay, now these SAMHSA grants are reinstated? I’m relieved, but how chaotic and inconstant and unprofessional is all this?

democrats-appropriations.house.gov/news/press-r...

The folks I work with are a small indigenous team providing a bridge to mental health care in a rural area. They squeeze lifesaving work out of every SAMHSA dollar while trying to stay intact week after week. There’s no money or time for lawyers.

Amen

An announcement from Noah Wyle and the CDC:

It’s fine! Just let everyone get to health crisis levels and have them go to the ER! Hahahahaha <laughs in unprecedented boarding>

💔

I don’t use “tragedy” lightly. Do people know how hard it is to set up the multilayered efforts that allow us to claw our way through the fentanyl crisis alone? To get people to mental health services in this time? It’s *already* tough.
