Not sure I would view it all in such moralistic terms: was it the 2018 or 19 LP conference, when feted by anti-Brexit membership his responding face betrayed a self-defeating mixture of suprise, uncertainty and ambition? Just an everyman carried away on a carousel they can't master...

Like Dominic Cummings, Morgan McSweeney helped deliver electoral victory but, in doing so, debased and subverted everything his party claimed to stand for.
Pls read whole piece. Neither Mandelson or Mosley were asked about Mandelson’s role in fixing Starmer’s visit to Palantir & subsequent £240m deal. It finally made headlines on Weds when a q was asked in Parliament.

But honestly, BBC also has qs to answer

I always believed the purpose of Brexit was to destroy the ability of nation states to take on spiv capitalism. I never expected to see actual evidence of it.
When whatever happens at the top of the Labour Party finally happens and given the sorry mess that British politics has been for years, is it maybe time to fix a broken system? Get rid of the “two party politics” delusion? Embrace PR? It’s apparently good enough for Scotland, Wales and N Ireland.

It is shocking isn't it. I've always assumed the Mandelson appointment by Brown was 'part of the settlement', not something he really wanted to do, which makes it all the more extraordinary that warning structures/advisers weren't in place to give him a clear off.

Wow, this speech from Mayor of NY Zohran Mamdani 👏💯

"I speak of Renee Good, whose final words to the man who murdered her moments later were: I'm not mad at you"

"I speak of Alex Pretti who died as he lived, caring for the stranger"

"Let us offer a new path: one of defiance through compassion"

Isn't that Gordon saying he should resign? Which I wouldn't disagree with.

Thank you.

Not sure. Rather, more proof Starmer is utterly inadequate. We don't need his pointless conscience, we need political conviction: sack MacSweeney, use a massive majority to pursue a clear political programme.
Why is every scandal existential for Starmer? Because he has actively worked to eradicate his own support base. And that, along with the Mandelson decision, can be laid at McSweeney's door iandunt.substack.com/p/starmers-m...
Yet this is a government with three years left to run and an enormous Commons majority. For all the problems, there is an enormous opportunity there for someone with the political nous to take it and use it.
Starmer's reported condition - incredibly unpopular, shorn of authority, probably un-reelectable and yet will stagger on for want of an alternative - is just the new normal of how Britain is governed. It was also true for two-thirds of May's premiership, half of Johnson's and all of Sunak's.
Pressure building on govt to come clean about Mandelson's role in bringing US spy-tech firm Palantir into the heart of our NHS.

The fingerprints of Mandelson and his lobbying firm are all over these deals.

💥 GOOD.

Because that £240 million contract gifted to Palantir, with no competition…

…after Starmer had an off-the-books meeting with Mandelson and Palantir…

…while Mandelson was officially LOBBYING FOR Palantir and so personally financially benefiting from such links and contracts…

Stinks.

The blunt truth is that if Karen Pierce had been a man, then she would still be US ambassador now and Keir Starmer's government would not be on the brink of death.
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

Why, for goodness sake, has McSweeney not resigned *of his own accord*? Might not save Starmer, of course, but is surely step no1 in any effort to save him. Does McSweeney care about Labour at all?

One of the problems with Starmer's triangulation is he is roughly aiming at where the average person but that person doesn't listen to political speeches. And it annoys everyone who does. Then the average person catches the bad vibes.
Keir Starmer attacks the racism of Reform and Matt Goodwin but then adds that "Britain has also been let down by a mindset on the left of politics that is too slow to defend core British values"
