The writer's use of the word 'never' is problematic, and rewording might better serve the paper (1983)

There are also some syntax errors in there that I will correct when I get time.

Sam @samuelmoore.org uses the notion of "commonsiness" at one point, and I can't help but hear it as Gollum.

We have this frustration, too! Why can't they just normalise the sound, as you suggest?

I think it's more just a symbolic token that they are taking good care of the artefact and are putting a deposit of £800m on that

Actually, re last post, the best Bond puns come from dialysis.

Best, Russia

We are, at Christmas, very fortunate to have enough to eat. But I find it a difficult time. Nausea and general lack of appetite from kidney failure means that there's constant pressure on me to eat and boost my weight! But I just can't summon much desire to do so. No risk of overeating, at least.

Ridiculous but entertaining Wikipedia "did you know?" box this am.

Interesting observation on "markets" for totally unique, historically valuable, un-saleable assets.
Find this fascinating.
The Tapestry is literally priceless. There is no market. Why not £2 billion? Or £500 million?

"And my fucking axe!"
“You must understand, young Hobbit, it takes a long time to say anything in Old Entish. And we never say anything unless it is worth taking a long fucking time to say.”
The Lord of The Rings movies were rated PG-13. By current rules that means that each film could contain one use of the word "Fuck". Which line are you altering to insert the most useful swear word?

My geekiest present was a PERIBOARD-835, wireless, ergonomic, backlit, and front-tilted mechanical keyboard. 😁

Merry Christmas one and all. Here's a beautiful story to start your day with a little weep.

Cardiff couple invited man in for Christmas, he stayed for 45 years - BBC News
An arrangement Rob and Dianne Parsons thought would last a few days ended up changing their lives.

they don’t tell you when you buy a christmas tree at the christmas tree farm that you could take it home, decorate it, and then be relaxing in your living room seven nights later when A BAT suddenly flies out and starts CRASHING AROUND YOUR HOUSE

Champagne (!!) It's all I'll be allowed due to kidney failure fluid restrictions, but hey. Once a year!

Yes - the Mulgrew/Ryan feud behind the scenes was regrettable, but you can see why it happened. On-screen, though, the relationship between the characters was amazing.

I share this opinion!

Thank you! It's almost killed me getting to this point...

Finally, now, can sit down for some catch-up reading and I'm turning to @samuelmoore.org's recent "Publishing Beyond the Market". I'm a few pages in and he's cited just about the best bit in my book, so it's looking promising 😂 Seriously, though, looking forward to this.

It's been a pretty epic Christmas Eve of proofing, revising, and final tidy-ups, but revisions to the Star Trek: Voyager book are done and sent. They were a total killer to implement, but they are now complete and I hope the peer-review gods will be appeased.

Now: to Christmas!

thanks for reading that little intro book and for the kind words -- and season's greetings to you and yours!

The countdown to Muppet Christmas Carol is on.

It's really one of the best bits of kit I own. But, obviously, expensive. I'd really like a new colour one.

To writing: yes. Very.

To page turns: slight lag.
