This is an interesting argument — obviously journalists are, in fact, tapping into these networks, but it’s also true that the initial delivery of (often immediately relevant and accurate) information for people on these networks isn’t journalists.

It’s their neighbors.
"My prediction for 2026: the news industry will finally realize that these informal community information networks are not peripheral to local news — they are the most functional version of it."

The future of news is happening where no one is looking

I was today years old when I learned that apparently carrying around a trash bag on Christmas morning and aggressively urging everyone to put their used wrapping paper in said bag is a classic Dad Thing and y’all it seems I have *arrived.*

The protesters described here in a DHS post as “imbecilic morons” were mostly clergy and faith leaders.

In fact, seven faith leaders were arrested at that protest. religionnews.com/2025/11/15/a...

But this…isn't what happened, per the reporting?

Weiss reportedly not only wanted to hold the piece until they could get admin comment, but specifically suggested getting an interview with Stephen Miller or someone at that level.

That's not just a "try harder" to get admin comment situation!
The Bari Weiss hysteria continues. Exactly what in "this piece isn't ready" and "try harder to get comment from the administration" constitutes the death of American journalism? www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

Crowd-sourced question: Let's say I wanted to know how many religious denominations, houses of worship, and faith-based organization sued the *Biden* administration in a given year.

Short of just searching a bunch of time-limited terms on RECAP, any suggestions on where to find that info?

For a few seconds, there's only the sounds of the marsh. Then, suddenly: shouting, rapid footsteps — and a familiar hum.

Since the Internet Archive has popped back into relevance tonight, just an FYI: It's one of a handful of tech nonprofits that have low-key become super important *in general* over the years, and perhaps especially this year.
I feel like there’s a story to be done on the under-recognized importance of tech nonprofits to modern journalism.

E.g.:

• Signal
• RECAP/Courtlistener
• Internet Archive/Wayback Machine
• Wikipedia/Wikimedia
