There's a non-zero safety risk with something like this.
1. Lower tends to be bumpier. 8k is *maybe* fine, but you can also get the kinds of bumps that smack unbelted people's heads into the ceiling.
2. Altitude = options. The higher you are, the more time you have to troubleshoot in an emergency.
