After 9 straight years with a landfalling hurricane—and a record 5 straight (2020-2024) with a major hurricane landfall—the U.S. escaped any hurricane landfalls in 2025. With the unprecedented disarray affecting FEMA and NOAA, we were extremely fortunate not to be tested by a major hurricane!

Surreal but excellent video about how we interact with nature. I’d have loved a sci-fi ending where killer bacteria lead the next transformation…

GCSE students from three local schools came onto campus to learn about the flood risks affecting Southampton.

They took part in interactive workshops with
the More Than Maps team, learning about the models and methods used to assess and adapt to flood risks.

Thank you SO MUCH for doing this. I use these graphics in an @sotongeogenviron.bsky.social 3rd year module on #climateadaptation. This year I lamented the absence of evidence with students and shared this screenshot instead. Hiding climate impact evidence does not stop climate change!

@climatecentral.org hired the NOAA scientist who was in charge of maintaining the billion dollar weather disaster data set and is going to continue it! Here is the new home of the Billion Dollar Disaster's data set: www.climatecentral.org/climate-serv...
Today, the U.S. faces one billion+ dollar climate/weather disaster on average every 2w. That's a massive increase from one every 4m in the 1980s.

This is 'global weirding' and people are taking notice!

The government told NOAA to stop tracking these events: but @climatecentral.org is on the job.

We've got some fantastic nature news to brighten your day 🎉

Wicken Fen has become the first UK nature reserve to record an incredible 10,000 species. A moth that imitates a wasp was the 10,000th species to be recorded. This work is possible thanks to a major grant from The Nature Recovery Project.

#Rydercup - why am i watching someone warm up? I haven’t seen any shots from Lowry, Hatton or Macintyre - are they still playing @skysportspl.bsky.social

#Rydercup fails by @skysportspl.bsky.social 1. Endless shots of fans, players walking, landscape or so-mo of players staring - missing the golf. 2. SOOO many adverts - missing the golf. 3. Split screen of 2 simultaneously shots - why? Who can watch both? @bbc or @itv pls take back #rydercup

@skysportpl.bsky.social worst #RyderCup ever due to TOO MANY ADVERTS so missing a lot of golf and horrible braying mob creating miserable viewing.

You ask where this is going … perhaps (1) Elon has realised that men should bear more responsibility for contraception and stop leaving this burden to women. Or (2) he will try to ban contraception to make women constantly pregnant! Who knows? Note: you don’t know me - my question is said with irony
