Infinite Jest: an homage to #DavidFosterWallace I made many years ago for an #InfiniteJest film festival. This short film imagines J.O. Incandenza on set with Mme. Psychosis as they make the fatal samizdat from the eponymous novel. Enjoy, but not too much…

A mosaic patolli board built into a Maya floor at Naachtun challenges ideas about ancient play. Planned, durable, and Early Classic in date, it links games to architecture, labor, and power. #Maya #Archaeology #AncientGames #Mesoamerica www.anthropology.net/p/a-game-set...
A Game Set in Stone and Clay: What a Mosaic Board Reveals About Maya Play and Power
At Naachtun, an Early Classic Maya city, archaeologists uncovered a patolli board unlike any other. Built into the floor itself, it forces a rethink of how games, labor, and architecture intersected.

Quite a jarring double feature, like chasing Cracker Jacks with a fine Barolo. But whatever gets you through the night!

Titanium Noir sequel now menacing a bookstore near you! Don't miss this genre defying series by @nickharkaway.com : Phillip K. Dick meets William Gibson @greatdismal.bsky.social meets Dashiell Hammett
Merry Christmas to me! Excited to finally read @nickharkaway.com's follow-up to Titanium Noir. 🪐📚💙

Can't wait! Titanium noir was really something, I even had a Titan appear unbidden in my dreams while reading the first book.

Can't wait!

I don't think he's ever read anything, not even Art of the Deal

Not to mention the clear threat of violence the phrase "put him to sleep" implies. The hipocrisy as usual is staggering.

It's like no one has ever watched a sci-fi horror movie...

Merry Christmas from the world's most corpulent musical instrument!
Me playing a Christmas carol (an arrangement of In Dulci Jubilo) on the Rockefeller carillon at the University of Chicago. At 105 tons, it is the largest musical instrument ever built. Have a happy holiday!

I highly recommend Helene Wecker's Golem and Djinni series: genre defying historical/magical realism set in late 19th century New York

I actually like the Zoe Boehm Oxford novels better!

Either my printer needs maintenance or I've tapped into another tranche of Epstein files!

Merry Christmas to all you Twin Peaks and Lynch fans!

In our "upside-down moment," hideous Lord Vecna needs to be stopped before he steals everyone's soul and sets the planet on fire.
Bari Weiss just sent this Christmas Eve email to the CBS News staff about "building trust," which includes her tripling down on spiking the CECOT piece "to make sure it's comprehensive and fair."

One CBS staffer tells me: "She really has no idea how insulting she comes across."

2 for 2, that's quite a streak!
Bari Weiss’ two accomplishments so far are hosting an interview that she desperately wanted people to watch (but they didn’t) and trying to spike a news story that she desperately wanted nobody to watch (but they did)

Bronze votive statuette of a warrior with a shield, wearing a helmet is of Athenian type with the cheek-pieces upturned, and a scale corslet over a short tunic. He originally held a curved sword, of which part survives, in his left hand, and probably had a spear in his right.
