“Nobody really pities the celebrity nepo baby, much less the billionaire heiress, but when they air petty resentments about their famous families, it’s hard to look away. It can be stressful to be born on second or third base, always knowing that you’ll probably never quite equal your highly….”

"And if my parents had made a different choice, I wouldn't be here today leading Congress into helpless irrelevancy, providing cover for a brutal American dictator, setting the stage for World War III, and ... hang on, hang on, let me start again."
Mike Johnson: "I was the product of an unplanned teen pregnancy exactly one year before Roe. A lot of people tried to convince my very young parents that they should just take care of that problem. But I am eternally grateful that they allowed me the chance at life."

Caught directly in a lie
CNN put together a clip of JD Vance claiming ICE agents have "absolute immunity" followed by him two weeks later claiming "I didn't say that officers who engage in wrongdoing would enjoy immunity"

I’m so proud of Minnesota. I understand why some people belittle protests as not enough, but I really think this shit matters.

I saw a clip on Fox News and they had to admit thousands of people showed up. It’s not going to stop Trump, but it’s a signal to your neighbors that they’re not alone.
From a friend in Minneapolis, just now:

Here is the newly-unsealed State Department memo confirming -- finally -- that the detention of Tufts student Rümeysa Öztürk was based on an op-ed.

No antisemitic activity. No support of terrorism.

An op-ed in a student newspaper.

People are missing a big thing about the saga of the detained 5-year-old. When Vance calls the father an "illegal alien" it seems to reflect a little-known Trump admin move that attempts to nullify asylum claims before they are even heard.

This policy is a horror:

Blumenthal: "I'm a no vote on that spending bill unless there are conditions that require ICE to go to a judge, to get a warrant, as well as other kinds of constraints -- the use of masks, the non-identification, the unmarked cars. These secret police, totalitarian tactics need to be stopped."

I do not romanticize Minnesota, even though I loved living there very much. It has the same problems most places have, and much work to do. But I am incredibly proud of everybody there who is working so hard to come together and take care of each other. It’s quite a thing.
It's -20 in Minneapolis and organizers are in the streets before dawn getting ready for actions related to the general strike. They've had locals training out-of-town volunteers on how to prepare for and endure the cold. AND IT IS WORKING. THE STRIKE IS HAPPENING. THE CITY IS DOING THE DAMN THING...

Remember how all these republicans pretended to believe in free speech?
Newly unsealed evidence makes it even clearer that Rubio and Noem knew they were targeting students based solely on their political speech and that they knew this policy was unconstitutional. They just didn’t care. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/22/u...

Tom Suozzi represents the NY-3 district on northwestern Long Island.

If there's any mayor or town council member in Syosset or Great Neck or wherever who wants to make their move, this is the time.

Denounce this vote, promise you'd stand up to the goons, and you'd raise a million in a week.
FWIW:

Golden is retiring.

The filing deadline has passed in NC; Davis is the only Dem running.

The filing deadline has passed in TX; Gonzalez & Cuellar both have primary opponents.

Gillen has several Dem opponents as well, as does Perez.

If you want to primary Suozzi, you still have until 3/30.

.@PabloReports: How big of a factor is Trump’s mental decline after what he has been saying in Davos?

Beyer: It’s very significant. Sadly, cognitive decline doesn’t get better. It’s only going to get worse in the weeks to come.

A 5-year-old detained on his way home from preschool.

This is the reality of what ICE is doing with their $75 billion budget. Wouldn’t this be better spent on health care?
