I love the Washington Post. I've been a subscriber for many years.

The Post’s coverage has enriched my life and is indispensable to my work as a policymaker.

I think I speak for many when I say it is heartbreaking to watch Jeff Bezos run the Washington Post into the ground.

“I don’t know whether investing tens of millions of dollars in a puff piece documentary about the First Lady is a savvy business move, but I know that Bezos’ well publicized meddling in and censorship of the Post’s editorial pages cost the paper hundreds of thousands of subscriptions.”

Final passage for the Senate-passed funding bill was surprisingly close in the House. Fewer Dems voting yes than I expected and more Republicans voting no. Once again all Dems were here, also. Dem leadership voted no across the board

They just flipped two of the holdouts and passed the rule. Final passage vote for the funding bill coming up mid afternoon
House now voting on the Republican rule (procedural measure) to bring the funding bill to the floor. All Dems present and voting against. R leaders were broadcasting a lot of confidence about winning this vote, which once again was misplaced. Likely they get it eventually but it's not going well rn

House breakdown: 218R - 214D.

Next special election, to replace MTG, is set for March 10th. Possible that will require a runoff, which would push her replacement a bit longer.
Texas Democrat Christian D. Menefee
@cdmenefee.bsky.social sworn in to US House by Speaker Johnson, two days after Menefee won a runoff election in the Houston-area 18th District vacant since Democrat Sylvester Turner's death last March. #tx18

“Melania” currently has just one positive review on Rotten Tomatoes, from the London Evening Standard, a right wing tabloid owned by a Russian oligarch who is also a former KGB agent

Dem House leadership endorses impeaching Noem
Donald Trump must fire Kristi Noem immediately.

Or Democrats will initiate impeachment proceedings against her in the House.

We can do this the easy way or the hard way.

From this story: “Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and her close adviser Corey Lewandowski, who were Bovino’s biggest backers at DHS, are also at risk of losing their jobs”

“Gregory Bovino has been removed from his role as Border Patrol “commander at large” and will return to his former job in El Centro, California, where he is expected to retire soon”

There is a lot of darkness right now so please enjoy the wailing and gnashing of teeth from this right wing influencer from the Tucker Carlson network who seems to have gotten the first tip that Bovino was being demoted and removed from Minnesota

Video statement from @beyer.house.gov calling for the end of ICE, CBP, and DHS’ occupation of Minneapolis, an independent investigation of the killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, and the impeachment of Kristi Noem:
The Department of Homeland Security is murdering American citizens. Congress cannot allow that to continue, we must act.

We need a full, independent investigation into these killings. 1/

NOT funded after 1/31: DHS, HHS, Labor, Education, Treasury, State, foreign aid, DoD (partial), Transportation, DC, Executive Office of the President, Judiciary Branch

Funded after 1/31: VA, DoD (partial), Commerce, Justice, Energy, Interior, EPA, NSF, NASA, Legislative Branch

List not exhaustive
Fed friends and constituents, you’re following the news I’m sure but in case this isn’t coming through in the sheer volume of everything, a partial government shutdown beginning next Monday is highly likely

Hmmmm
President Trump says he spoke to Governor Walz.

I don’t believe we have a read-out on this call from the Walz side yet, please correct me if I’m wrong.

I will note that this is giving “off-ramp” energy.

Trump’s endless empowerment of federal immigration agents has resulted in yet another senseless killing. This brutal crackdown has to end.

I cannot and will not vote to fund DHS while this administration continues these violent federal takeovers of our cities.

The CBP agent pushes a woman onto the ground and peppers sprays her, the man is trying to protect her from them and help her up, which they respond to by pepper spraying him, tackling him, and then shooting him from behind. It’s one of the most upsetting things I’ve ever seen happen in America

👀 Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., one of 8 Senate Dems who voted for the November deal, slams the House-passed approps package. His concerns include ICE. As a bundle, he doesn’t support it “without significant amendment.”

This still needs 60 senators to avert a shutdown next Friday. Stay tuned.

And that’s what happened. Hunt returned, tying the vote. A tie vote fails, so Republicans defeat the Venezuela war powers resolution. Bacon and Massie were the only dissenters
