5) Dems showed (a) it's possible to get something out of "shutting down the government" despite what the pundits said, and (b) that they could hold together for 40 days. It's not a policy win, but it changes expectations for what they can do in the future, strengthening their negotiating position.

Rick Scott told me his plan would be to take all of the remaining ACA subsidies and redistribute them to HSA accounts and people can then buy whatever insurance a state certifies. Basically a repeal/replace.
He denied when I asked wouldn’t that create two-tiered system where sick pay much more…

I know I keep teasing this (still plan a full post tomorrow), but if you're on an ACA plan & live in any of the following states you *may* be in luck:

WA, IL, VT, PA, AR, WV, AK, TX, CO, MO, WY, NM, MD, VA

tl; dr version: If you're on a Silver plan this year, take a close look at GOLD plans.
My ACA current plan is going from $385/mo to $821/mo.

We're debating on the government funding package right now and every single Republican voted against a Democratic amendment to pass a clean, one-year extension of the ACA tax credits.

Republicans just don't care about your health care.

I wonder why they decided to delete it?

Also, to be blunt, Qatari PAC money would benefit more from a government shutdown reopening than AIPAC coercing a shutdown opening.

For that matter, the ACA marketplaces literally allow you to “negotiate your own insurance” RIGHT NOW. That’s the whole point of having a marketplace: You can compare plans and pick the one you feel is the best value for your needs & budget.
November 11, 2025 at 12:20 AM
“Negotiating your own insurance” will result in everyone getting the dirt-cheapest junk plan which covers virtually nothing, because most people are terrible at risk assessment.
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

“You don’t just flip a switch…” —Mike Johnson

It took them less than six months to pass a budget bill that gave billionaires permanent tax breaks and stripped away nearly $1T in Medicaid from Americans and ACA susbsidies.

Also notable — Trump starting issuing tariffs 10 days after being sworn in.
Mike Johnson: "That's the reason the inflation is up, the cost of living is up so high -- because of the policies of the previous administration. Now, we're working to root those policies out and implement our own, but it takes a little time."

Here is my latest for @msnbc.com, on Trump's ill-advised concept of a plan for health care, which entails repealing the ACA, and redistributing private insurers' tax breaks to the people for what would essentially amount to an HSA, which is unhelpful if not wealthy. www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

Let me guess:

"Sell across state lines!"

"Patient-centric healthcare!"

"Portability!"

Or, if you want to go REALLY old school: "Tort reform!"
Mike Johnson on the Republican healthcare plan: "We've got notebooks full of ideas."
