The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

I’m a constituent that voted for you. Do not cave to open the government that does not include reinstating subsidies for those that are enrolled in the ACA/Obamacare. Courts are requiring F47 to fund SNAP. Citizens need affordable health insurance! Do not cave!

This is great to hear - hope some of the “squishy” folks think twice!
Dem Senator Ruben Gallego is a no on the CR:

“I have been clear on this from the beginning: I will not turn my back on the 24 million Americans who will see their premiums more than double if we don’t extend these tax credits.”

I have called both of my Senators today, Ruben Gallego and Mark Kelly, on a Sunday, to tell them there must be NO agreement that would open the government *until and unless* Senate Republicans protect ACA healthcare subsidies ROCK SOLID. In writing. Guaranteed. For a year.

Done with weak Democrats!

I do think he might be a weak link…often proposing the “bipartisan” position, voting for Trump nominees, etc.

A scene from yesterday’s warm afternoon run. Certainly not the glorious colors of a New England fall, or the golden aspens of our nearby mountains. But I love the subtle gold and silver of Rabbitbrush and Winterfat at this time of year.

Are you caving? The Suspect List includes you:

Jean Shaheen
Jon Peters
Jon Ossoff
Mark Kelly
Peter Welch
Tammy Baldwin
Elissa Slotkin
Sens. John Fetterman
Catherine Cortez Masto
Angus King

If you cave, forget getting further donations from me. #Fight

I just called @gallego.senate.gov and @captmarkkelly.bsky.social - very worried about them.

Please don't listen to Chuck Schumer. DO NOT CAVE. Listen to your constituents. Don't settle!

You don’t need to change anything - as a fan of all runners, from our neighborhood Girls on the Run to our Flagstaff elite pros and Olympians, I am very appreciative of you and @fastwomen.bsky.social

I was always proud of being a Cornell PhD alum - admired the philosophy/ideal of educating any person in any discipline. But this capitulation by Cornell means that ideal has been extinguished.
BREAKING: Cornell caved.

Driving home late last night from a long day serving as a poll worker/election worker in a (very small!) rural district in my huge rural county...from here to New York City, it's clear that commitment to integrity in local elections can make all the difference. @coconinovote.bsky.social
Tom Hanks explains to Stephen Colbert why he masks on the subway:

"I'm doing a play right now so I cannot get sick... I've had COVID enough in my life, I don't need to do that again. So I'm wearing this for health reasons."

Thank you Tom! Masks are still a key part of public health.

Generative AI being 'wrong' in the information it produces, and being unethical in how it steals human labor are both overlapping issues and it's important to show a bit of damn solidarity even if you're not a scientist, or information worker, or a writer, or an artist, or a photographer

You are so right! My first spouse was a journalist (newspaper reporter, editor) - We had front-row seats to the destruction of local and metropolitan newspapers - first by corporate consolidation, then by private equity and, at same time, destruction of many of the revenue sources by technology.

I had missed this article earlier. An example of what we're losing, in terms of science that could make a difference for people in this time of climate crisis. Just one relatively small research group at one university (my own #NorthernArizonaUniversity). Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/08/c...

Share and amplify this! Our local bookstore, Brightside Books in #Flagstaff , is an invaluable anchor for true community.
Amazon is helping fund a $300 million build of a ballroom for the White House.

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

Last night I attended @indivisiblenaz.bsky.social monthly mtg. Good mix of information sharing (highlights of #NoKings 2 rally), updates on local actions (happy to hear #SignsofSolidarity is at work in Flagstaff!), and direct assistance to community (food drive for Flagstaff Family Food Center).

EPA eliminating the $7B Solar for All program is the wrong direction for sunny AZ - absurd! ☀️ Arizona risks losing 69K jobs + $58B in investments if solar progress stalls. We can’t afford to go backward on clean energy. #CleanEnergyAZ #SolarForAll #ClimateAction bit.ly/3WSprGA

If you're in northern or southern Arizona, do you plan on attending your local rally?

I did the poll worker training earlier this week. Excellent training and the manual I now have will be invaluable on Election Day. I encourage everyone to step up for this if you can - what a way to support our communities while learning about elections and government.
Become a Poll Worker and support our voters! 🔥

No experience needed – just a passion for your community and a willingness to learn. We'll provide all the training you need to become an essential part of Election Day.
