Plant ecologist/conservation biologist, happily retired professor and academic administrator. Now seeking as a private citizen to bring rational approach to bear on the huge challenges of our time - democracy, climate disruption, loss of nature's richness.
A scene from yesterday’s warm afternoon run. Certainly not the glorious colors of a New England fall, or the golden aspens of our nearby mountains. But I love the subtle gold and silver of Rabbitbrush and Winterfat at this time of year.

Great turnout at #Flagstaff #NoKings with loud crowd lining Historic Route 66 downtown. Lots of support for federal workers, public lands, democracy, and love of the US!

Not the largest crowd we’ve had, but loud and energetic. Everyone from “elderly hippies” to a young boy who brought his own #NoKings sign to wave before rushing off to his baseball game! Lots of support from passing vehicles for #WorkersOverBillionaires

Hurrah! A real rainfall - first monsoon event of this summer! #Flagstaff Thankful to have fire risk being tamped down, and summer growth beginning.

Great energy- this is only one tiny spot in the #Flagstaff #nokings rally right now.

Lovely clump of pincushion cactus (Coryphantha vivípara) near our house. Somehow I have never before managed to catch it in flower!

Exciting (and humbling!) to be part of the advisory group for this - learned so much from fellow residents and county staff. Please read the chapters you are most interested in, and provide feedback - this will guide county decisions for the next decade at least!

One reason to pause and appreciate April…

Feeling fortunate that in the midst of chaos and fear I am still in a beautiful place. This morning I walked in the San Francisco Peaks, and later worked a bit in the garden. I hope all of those who are fighting the good fight can find some peace, in the place or maybe the people around them.

Great couple of hours at our local #HandsOff demonstration! Hundreds of people with signs, and enormous support from passing cats and trucks. And of course, it being Flagstaff, MANY dogs.

Ready for tomorrow's #HandsOff demonstration in Flagstaff! I haven't been much of a protest-in-the-streets person (just a bit too young for the 60's) but now is certainly the time. Many friends and colleagues will be there too. The organizers have made it so easy! @indivisiblenaz.bsky.social
