Swiss Gov't Rejects Palantir, Citing 'Devastating Risks'

(But not to worry, the UN World Food Program didn’t hesitate a second to set up a 5-year partnership with Palantir back in the day). #WFPalantir

Happy Timeline Bifurcation Day to all who celebrate. This one sucked.
25 years ago today, SCOTUS elected George W Bush president of the United States by blocking completion of a voting canvass in Florida. A subsequent canvass by the Associated Press showed that Bush's rival, Al Gore, had won the race in Floridaβ€”and thus the contest for the presidencyβ€”by 700 votes.

The miniature figures below the monument represent the multiple, the diverse, the anonymous mass, supporting and resisting the stone. For me, this entire piece also represents People Power.

This is my favorite statue because there’s no statue; no powerful individual to elevate. The artist, Do Ho Suh, calls his non-statue β€œPublic Figures.” Why? Look at the base of the pedestal (see close-ups in the 🧡).

β€œDespite thousands of years of innovations and breathtaking scientific advances, you'd be more likely to survive if you were marooned on a tropical island with a tradesman or farmer from ancient Rome or medieval England than with most modern professionals.” - @brianklaas.bsky.social

After they left, Mamdani went to the library to look for Marx, and then took a class on Mark. And that’s how Mamdani Senior was introduced to Karl Marx! (3/3)

ps. Mamdani Sr.’s books had a big impact on me in grad school. And turns out we both went to Fletcher.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahmood...

Mamdani Senior: β€œI haven’t met him.”

FBI: β€œNo, no, he’s dead.”

M: β€œWow, what happened?”

FBI: β€œNo, no, he died long ago.”

M: β€œWhy are you asking me, if he died long ago?”

FBI: β€œNo, he wrote a lot. He wrote that poor people should not be poor.”

M: β€œSounds amazing.”

🧡 (2/3)

One of my favorite stories about Mamdani’s father, who was jailed during the civil rights march in Montgomery in 1965:

Weeks after he got out, the FBI paid him a visit. They asked why he was at the march, and who had influenced him. An hour into the interrogation, they asked, β€œDo you like Marx?”

Mamdani: "New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants, and as of tonight, led by an immigrant."
WOW. 81% of women 18-29 voted for Mamdani, 80% for Sherril, and 78% for Spanberger.

Gen Z women aren't playing around.
I love how Rep. Joe Neguse reframed this question.
