"The River" became a two-record set, crafted to feel “like life or an E Street Band show,” as Bruce said. Released 45 years ago tomorrow, "The River" still sounds like what Bruce was searching for: a record big enough to hold it all.

Bruce played the recording of “Born to Run” on Philadelphia’s WMMR in November 1974, its radio debut. 50 years ago this week, the song that still ties it all together cracked the Billboard Top 40 at No. 30, a watershed moment as Bruce’s music reached a national audience for the first time.
