The smartest thing a politician can do in 2026 is to come up with a bold plan for shoring up and EXPANDING public libraries. Call it Project 2050. It's a way to reintroduce the grammar of commoning and the commons to a new generation in a way they can easily grasp. Such low hanging fruit.

Another person who started down this path from the most “innocuous” advertised uses of ChatGPT: homework help. I have been struck by the cases of people getting lost in delusions after using this product for work or school: ie the use cases we are supposed to encourage as faculty.

As his parents learned from the chat logs, Zane’s first interactions with ChatGPT in October 2023 couldn’t have been less remarkable: He needed help with his homework and asked ChatGPT to research a math problem.

The next month, Zane tried a conversational question: “How’s it going.”

ChatGPT’s reply was generic: “Hello! I’m just a computer program, so I don’t have feelings … How can I assist you today?”

It appears that my employer, Dartmouth, one of the Trump 9, has said no to the compact. All the better given that our president is cited within it. But she’s saying no. Count the small victories when they come.
