Hi there! I’m Jacob Warner, and I am a paleoclimatologist and archaeologist. I study past climates, mostly through the geochemistry of archaeologically sourced mollusks. I’m also interested in how people adapted to climate change in the past.

Was talking to my wife about this today, I thought Ford should’ve brought back the ranger as an EV. F-150 crowd wouldn’t be into it, but small truck crowd might. I was interested, but F-150 platform too big and expensive for my needs. Literally was “if I won the lottery…”

Hurricane Melissa which is en route to decimate Haiti and Jamaica rapidly intensified to category 4 storm. Rapid intensification is a hallmark of climate change, but that category is only a measure of its wind speed. It is also expected to bring up to 40 inches of rain

1/ ICYMI yesterday, from my colleague Danny Cusick: NOAA said over a month ago that it would fill 126 open positions at the NWS (since the start of the year, NWS has lost around 600 staffers). They still haven't advertised the jobs.

This includes Sea Ice Index, Snow Data Assimilation System (SNODAS) Data Products, Glacier Photograph Collection, U.S. National Ice Center Arctic Sea Ice Charts and Climatologies in Gridded Format Gridded Monthly Sea Ice Extent and Concentration, 1850 Onward World Glacier Inventory. This new White House executive order says that the US Attorney General is going to prevent states from implementing democratically passed laws regarding climate change and clean energy. It scarcely needs stating at this point that this is wildly, unambiguously unconstitutional. Dictator shit.

If you see these little mounds this time of year in Eastern North Carolina, leave them be. They are not ants. They are little ground bees. Each mound has one little female bee. They won't stay in there very long so I try not to walk over them or drive over them. We need every pollinator.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

This checklist is shocking. A person can be declared an "Alien Enemy" based ONLY on communications with someone ICE says is a member, and nothing more.

6 points for texting a "known member of TDA" + 3 points for Venmoing or CashApping a "known member" = 9 points = TDA member = sent to CECOT.
