Hier sprichst du genau den zentralen Denkfehler an. Die Frage sollte nicht lauten: „Was bringt Latein?“, sondern vielmehr: „Was bringt Latein im Vergleich zu einer alternativen Verwendung der zur Verfügung stehenden Schulstunden?“

👇 This is how many academics (especially as referees) read papers. So it’s worth keeping in mind when writing research articles.

The key is to earn the reader’s attention after the abstract and intro and make them want to go deeper.
Even in the AI era, learning to quickly "read" an academic article is an essential skill.

When I started grad school, I thought I had to read every word, in order, for every article I "read".

I don’t do that anymore.

Here’s how I "read" most academic articles:

Ist das ein Zurückrudern? Von „I don’t rule out military force“ zu „we will tariff you“ zu „we will remember“.

I imagine myself as a future historian, trying to make sense of our time through the documents left behind by the supposed leader of the free world, voluntarily chosen by the people of the most powerful country on earth.
"Donald Trump now genuinely lives in a different reality, one in which neither grammar nor history nor the normal rules of human interaction now affect him. Also, he really is maniacally, unhealthily obsessive about the Nobel Prize."

This is basically giving all countries a strong incentive to acquire nuclear weapons. The US is turning its long-standing policy of limiting nuclear proliferation upside down.

Ethical collapse, yes. But it’s not she who was debased. By making this gesture for the good of her country (even if it might not change anything), she elevated herself and made him look astonishingly small and pitiful at the same time.

Ist leider viel zu lang.

There is definitely still room for improvement and I tweak my instructions constantly. But explicitly telling ChatGPT to cut the BS makes a big difference.

Over the past year, I received reimbursements from institutions in various EU countries. Similar small sums, wildly different levels of paperwork. Here’s my Euro-bureaucracy ranking (1 = most paperwork pain):

🥇 France
🥈 Germany
🥉 Austria
4️⃣ Spain
5️⃣ Luxembourg
6️⃣ Denmark
