Sheffield Hallam University appeased China Govt to protect its income from Chinese student enrollment.

It shut down research into forced labour and human rights abuses, intimidated academics, suppressed academic papers.

Finally got myself an old MacBook Air M2 and installed @asahilinux.org on it. It's mindblowing. I've never experienced a PC as fast and snappy as this. Build is terrific and battery 10+ hours. Everything except external display works. This ends the search for the optimal Linux laptop afaic

The writer/editor is a position within the Center’s Religion research team, which seeks to promote a deeper understanding of religion and spirituality. The Religion research team conducts surveys, demographic analyses and other social science research in the United States and around the world, studying people’s religious beliefs and practices as well as their views on related issues, including religion’s role in public life. The ideal candidate will have a strong data journalism mindset, with the ability to translate complex quantitative findings into clear and engaging narratives that are nonpartisan and non-advocacy. This position will be embedded within the Religion research team, where the writer/editor will work collaboratively to shape the team’s research agenda, including identifying key research questions; contributing to survey development; and synthesizing findings into accessible and compelling storylines. The writer/editor will also evaluate drafts of research reports to determine whether there are shortcomings in the analysis; edit, rewrite and reorganize drafts as necessary to improve flow and clarity; and work with researchers and designers to create appropriate charts and tables. In addition, the writer/editor will provide guidance and training to the Religion team’s researchers and serve as a writing resource. Following the release of reports, the writer/editor may help disseminate research to the public through the Center’s social media channels, videos, newsletters, and virtual or in-person gatherings, always adhering to the Center’s independent, nonpartisan, non-advocacy stance.

Ser på Lånekassens satser og konstaterer at det ikke lenger er mulig for en ubemidlet norsk student å studere på gode universiteter i England. Skolepenger for en bachelor på OxBridge starter på NOK 575k per år, uten kost og losji. Lånekassen gir totalt 550k (190k stip + 360k lån)

Among the very many things that could be said about No Kings, I think they fit neatly into the wave of "horizontally structured, digitally coordinated, leaderless mass protest" waves that Vincent Bevins describes in his book If We Burn, and that, like the others, they are "fundamentally illegible."

142 The number of Amazon Web Services products that were affected by the end of Monday, after a glitch with an obscure Amazon database set off a massive internet outage that delayed flights, knocked out websites and extended into everyday life. By 3 a.m., the outage's blast radius had spread far beyond Amazon, cascading across the internet, delaying more than 4,000 flights, knocking out news websites such as The Wall Street Journal, affecting financial transactions and extending into everyday life. The episode, which turned into one of the most prolonged daily outages for AWS, offered a reminder of the fragility of global connectivity, which has gone dark a number of times in recent years after seemingly minor software updates. By late afternoon Monday, Amazon said it had restored much of the service that had The AWS outage is poised to accelerate a push among many executives to diversify their cloud services, analysts said. Doing so can make it easier to respond and adjust to disruptions, but software executives cautioned that problems can occur on other cloud platforms as well. Some companies that have diversified managed to avoid the chaos others faced throughout the day. Shaun Hunt, chief information officer of McKenney's, said the Atlanta-based construction services firm didn't go down completely because the firm uses several cloud platforms and runs on its own data centers. "We have a strategy to diversify our risk," he said.
