For The Conversation, I wrote about how White Southerners are making sense of what it means to be White in these times.

In a nutshell, it’s complicated.

I hope you’ll read and share widely.

‘It’s a complicated time to be a white Southerner’ − and their views on race reflect that
How do white Southerners think about their racial status in a world that is scrutinizing white advantages? Researchers found people across the political spectrum grappling with what being white means.

Yep. Wrote a whole book that puts this tendency into historical perspective.

An important point from @tressiemcphd.bsky.social about the dangers of affixing racism to mental conditions. @insurgentprof.bsky.social & I wrote about the these dangers about linking racism strongly to psychopathology

As you consider your textbook adoptions for the Fall semester, I hope you’ll consider The Power of Sociology for your Sociology 101 courses.

The Power of Sociology
Explore the world of sociology through a defining feature of all societies: power. The Power of Sociology: Grasping Our Unequal World introduces students to sociology through the discipline&rsqu...

The Power of Sociology also embraces a cross-cultural, comparative perspective, and features the voices and stories of people in, adjacent to, and outside of sociology that lend new insight into the story of our discipline and its wide reach.

The Power of Sociology not only has an explicit focus on power and inequality, but also features a standalone chapter on immigration (unique to intro textbooks).

I received my physical copies of The Power of Sociology last week. This is my sixth book project (!).

I’ve been a WaPo subscriber for a number of years. I’ve stuck with them, even after the Bezos takeover, because I do believe we need to support real journalism. And there were still some incredible journalists, doing incredible work, at the WaPo.

But this mass layoff was the last straw, for me.

Slowly coming out of my self-imposed social media sabbatical. Winter Storm Fern kicked us squarely in the nuts. But we’re still standing. We're thankful for all the ways this could have been much worse but wasn’t. And are committed to helping those for whom it was much worse than it should ever be.

Y’all I got a package in the sociology department and it was this review copy (? Should it be desk copy?) of a textbook that looks really great!

I will have to talk someone into letting me teach it.

“Those interested in the city’s flourishing should want more things to look like the private skyscrapers above ground than the public transit below it.”

This is an actual line from today’s editorial in the WaPo. Did Bezos write this himself?
WSJ breaks significant news reporting that Mar-a-Lago’s spa *for years* regularly sent young staffers to Epstein’s home purportedly to give him massages, contorts its scoop to find a more flattering angle for Trump, and still gets an icy blast of a comment from Leavitt. www.wsj.com/us-news/trum...
Exclusive | The Incident That Prompted Trump to Ban Epstein From Mar-a-Lago’s Spa
Mar-a-Lago sent an 18-year-old spa worker on a house call to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003. She complained to her bosses that Epstein pressured her for sex.

"Please be kind enough to explain when and where and under what authority you gained access to this material.”

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse & Sen. Dick Durbin write letter to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, asking how she's "read the Epstein files"

The op-ed section of the Washington Post used to be among the better ones in print journalism. No more.

Today we have one author trying to launder the Epstein files while another aims to convince you the 2026 elections don’t matter.

I wonder if people in this country know that the VAST MAJORITY of people in the US did not contribute to the Black freedom movement. I'm always taken aback by how people talk online. Folks, your grandparents & great-grandparents DID NOTHING or they were in OPPOSITION, lol.

Ah. That’s so kind of you!

Anyone can read the redactions of the Epstein Files by just copying and pasting them into a word doc. The people at Trump's Justice Department are so stupid they used Adobe Acrobat to black out the documents.
