More than 15,000 estimates of the social cost of carbon have been published 1980-2025.

Would love to see working paper.

Projections of future mortality risk in older adults from high-tide flooding in coastal areas of the USA: an economic modelling study
The cost of premature mortality in older adults is greater in magnitude than other modelled effects of climate-induced high-tide flooding (eg, value of lost time due to traffic delays). Results sugges...

Experimental evidence that students are more likely to contest grades when they are delivered by an evaluator with a female-sounding name.

"These findings suggest that women in evaluative positions face disproportionate resistance when delivering negative assessments."

Omg. None of these are alike 🤣

NYC Council passes law that would require landlords to provide cooling systems capable of maintaining 78°F "in rooms in which tenants sleep, upon the request of the tenant."

Cooling season would run from June 15 - September 15. Bill is currently on Mayor's desk waiting to be signed. (1/2)

If this is true, we need to be checking our google scholar pages all the time for fake articles being listed there. Soon the metrics used to evaluate us by universities will be tarnished, not that I was thrilled about their use before.
Closing out my year with a journal editor shocker 🧵

Checking new manuscripts today I reviewed a paper attributing 2 papers to me I did not write. A daft thing for an author to do of course. But intrigued I web searched up one of the titles and that's when it got real weird...
This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

Pierre-Louis Vezina, Cevat Giray Aksoy, and Piotr Lewandowski show that, far from displacing local businesses, Ukrainian refugees in Poland sparked an entrepreneurial boom as they inspired Polish entrepreneurs and created new supply chain opportunities.

My oldest got whooping cough at 6 weeks from my husband’s relative in 2007. He was hospitalized for 2 weeks and was choking and turning purple. He survived but I would not wish any parent go through that, which means all of us including babies need to keep this vaccine up to date.

Congrats!!
Here is the percentage of white males age 30-39 working in professional, technical, and managerial jobs between 1850 and 2024. The current generation has not been squeezed out of such jobs. If there is any lost generation here, I would say it is boomers who were 30-39 in 1990. (@ipums.bsky.social)

I'm still in disbelief, but I have some doubly good news: I got tenure, and in January I'm starting as an Associate Professor at @notredame.bsky.social's Keough School of Global Affairs. I'm excited to keep working on making immigration policy better in theory and practice.

Glenn said it was Josh Brolin. And I didn’t believe him. I couldn’t get past the hair.

That’s cute!

Last night we watched the new Knives Out movie.

My take: I like the hot priest. Where have I seen him? Oh that steamy tennis movie.

My husband: This movie is not accurate of the Catholic Church. Priests don’t give homilies from the podium since Vatican II.

Grading and googling hallucinated citations, as one does nowadays, and now that LLMs have been around for a while, I've discovered new horrors: hallucinated journals are now appearing in Google Scholar with dozens of citations bc so many people are citing these fake things
