Tech tensions continue rising: the Spanish government has accused Pavel Durov of using his "unrestricted control" of Telegram to send a message full of "lies and illegitimate attacks" to all Spanish users of the app.

"It's the first time in the history of the country," Spanish sources say.

Great thread - and summary of Bluesky..
The problem with social media is that you’re only allowed to hold opinions in batches. If you believe X and Y, you must also believe Z, which is atmospherically similar to X and Y and believed by all the same people.

If you don’t do this, everyone hates you. It makes actual thinking impossible.

A good time to remember the two pieces I wrote on Matt and his co-warriors, Eric Kaufmann and David Goodhart. This was is from 2019. Matt threatened to sue @opendemocracy.net for publishing it! /1

And Tommy Robinson endorsed Matt! Quite an achievement in less than ten years. Matthew Goodwin will definitely be remembered in the annales of the 2020s - just not like the way he would have wanted to.

Konstantin Kisin straight up lying on #bbcqt

Douglas Alexander: “When Fraser Nelson put it to you that Rishi Sunak is absolutely english… you said “he’s a brown Hindu, how is he english?”

Kisin: “No, that’s not what I said...”

It actually shows that Trump is not the problem - though, of course, he makes things worse. White Christian nationalism has more supporters than often assumed.
Breaking News: Spain issued a decree allowing hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants to apply for legal residency. The measure is bucking a trend, as many Western governments have cracked down on illegal immigration.

A thread of MAGA protesting with guns and not getting murdered for it...

Arizona, November 2020
Sooner or later the media is going to have to accept they are actively trying to tear the country apart, to start a war.

A substantial contingent of combat soldiers arrived in Nuuk and Kangerlussuaq today. They were accompanied by Army Chief of Staff Peter Boysen—a highly unconventional move to signal that Greenland’s sovereignty is non-negotiable.

A “Stop Trump” protest is also underway in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, led by the prime minister and other political leadership.

"Not to take over. Not to acquire. Not by pressure. Not now. Not ever."
Important work here from the NYT. Ross wasn’t run over. He dropped his cell phone, which he had shifted to his left hand to draw his weapon. And then he shot and killed a person with the gun in his right hand.

I read the whole article, and I ask "what kind of an argument is this?". 1. Is the best way of countering China's influence toppling regimes? 2. China is influential, say, in Africa as well. What's next, regime changes in Africa? 3. What if China applies the same logic and occupies Taiwan?

It's finally happening.

The Swedish prime minister just announced that a pan-European force is arriving in #Greenland as we speak.

No word yet on whether UK forces are among them.

I guess I'm frustrated by the overall lethargy and lack of mass action (these are still a handful).. We all know that nothing is beyond Trump. The only thing that could stop this madness is organized action which should include elected representatives. Thanks for the correction though.
I would push back on that characterization. I am very critical and often of many Democrats, but I don’t think AOC is nearly the only one speaking up or acting. Rep Robin Kelly (IL) is filing to impeach Kristi Noem, and I’ve seen other support that (including my Congressman Goldman in NY). 1/2

Goldman and Rep Swalwell (CA) are planning to introduce a bill that would stripe ICE officers of qualified immunity. Others such as CT Sen Chris Murphy are pushing to restrict budget, and Rep Maxwell Frost (FL) all the way last summer pushed for legislation to make ICE more accountable.

Why aren't the Democrats pushing for a full investigation? Why aren't they staging a protest in the Senate or the House? Why aren't they speaking up (with the notable exception of AOC)?
One thing lost in the frame-by-frame analyses is the bigger picture: ICE escalated a routine, non-threatening encounter into a fatal confrontation.
