What amazing timing for this news story, leading into tonight's vote on banning algorithmic price fixing tools for Portland rentals.
BREAKING NEWS: We’ve secured a $7 million settlement holding the largest U.S. landlord accountable for a price fixing scheme – and putting a check on the rising cost of rentals.

Disagreement on policy is welcome and reasonable, but calling me a Nazi for cosponsoring an ordinance to ban price-fixing is completely unacceptable. Councilor Ryan edited his post, but did not disclose the edit and explain the nature of the substantive change, so it’s here for posterity.

if you haven't yet weighed in on the fall budget amendment to redirect money away from sweeps and towards rent and food assistance, here's a link to make it easy:

Every dollar spent on forcibly moving our unhoused neighbors from one wet sidewalk to another is a dollar not spent on programs like rental assistance, which keeps Portlanders from becoming unhoused in the first place.

Gamergate.
It's basically this: Over the last 15 years, deeply alienated and lonely internet trolls, amplified by influencer grifters and algorithms trained to increase time on metrics by stewing division, convinced huge swathes of American men that every facet of modern life is feminine and, thus, bad.
I... do not understand this new construction of masculinity?

it's not athletic. it's not stoic. it's not handsome. it's not accomplished. it's never been intellectual.

it's just rich white loud dudes on the TV who look like they don't wash their genitals? is that it?

A man was charged with trespassing in New Haven, CT, on the very spot that the state Department of Correction had dropped him off when he finished serving a prison sentence. This is reality in a country where homelessness is criminalized, and it's getting worse, as Colleen Shaddox reports:
When Sleeping Is a Crime
With a new executive order and model state legislation criminalizing homelessness, the richest people in the U.S. are making it easier to lock up the poorest.

Something that shouldn’t be glossed over is that treating homelessness as a beautification issue and not a human rights failure is something that well-to-do people in liberal cities (like Portland) use time and time again, which just helps reenforce fascist rhetoric and actions like this.
