The New Year is here, and what better way to celebrate than by joining us for our first happy hour event of the year! Drop by the patio at White Owl Social Club, this Thursday 6pm-8pm, to chat and hear from our special guest, Celestina Teva from OR Department of Land Conservation + Development!

Some have said that single-stair (left) has moved faster than elevators (right). Certainly there's been way more single-stair legislation, but it got started around 2021 by @holz-bau.bsky.social, while elevator reform dates just to mid-2024. So it's moving at a similar pace, just with a later start.

Billions of dollars to ODOT for continued endless polluting freeway expansions, while TriMet and other transit agencies across the state prepare for massive service cuts.

A profound public policy failure of Oregon government. #orpol #orleg
Go to trimet.org/servicecuts to learn more about the service cuts, share your feedback this month and help us shape the future of our transit service. The survey closes Jan. 31.
Planned Bus and MAX Service Cuts
Due to a growing budget gap, we must cut some TriMet service starting in November 2025.

If public policy can make elevators cheaper to build, not only will we build more homes in the middle of our amenity-rich and desirable neighborhoods, but all the homes we do build will be accessible to people who can't always take the stairs.

housing affordability and accessibility overlap!
The Americas see about 3% of global elevator installations as of 2020. The U.S. & Canada: even less.

But we've stuck with our own unique set of elevator codes, as if elevator companies still have no choice but to beat a path to our door.

Nope! "Everywhere else" is a bigger common market now.

This liberal city sees San Francisco as a role model — for home building failure
While prices for starter homes in San Francisco have surged, Portland has seemingly found the key to produce “missing middle” houses for first-time buyers.

People mandates are expensive, wasteful, and a barrier to new homes. We need flexibility instead. Baltimore gets it.
To spur housing construction, Baltimore ends parking minimums
Opinion: Parking minimums are expensive and hamper new housing. A new law in Baltimore City is right to do away with them.

Incremental infill on small lots. Imagine the 10s of thousands of families that'll get to call Inner Portland home thanks to this city council passing Inner Eastside for All!

Dreaming of @lanefab.com's bike access block.

Sunlit family size apartments, with bike storage in the Inner Eastside. This will be made possible if Portland passes Inner Eastside for All (and the state passes elevator/single-stair reform).

A new build home in Montavilla for under $250k. It's quite modest, but it's fantastic that anything like this is being built now.

This is a backyard which has been made into 2 modest homes. It would've been illegal to do this until just a few years ago.
