Using a New Zealand accent, pronunciation of the band names“The Beths” and “The Bats” is exactly the same. True or false? Discuss.

Look, I totally get that transmission infrastructure will be necessary for the just transition from fossil fuels, but ffs (gift)
Oregon regulators uphold approval for controversial transmission line that may serve a single data center rather than the public
The 300-mile B2H transmission project was approved to benefit hundreds of thousands of Oregon residents but will now will likely serve a data center

A couple of key findings from a consultant's report published last year on the Portland's budget process transition to the new form of government. No reason. Totally random post.

Cheers to Unipiper-whiskey press release quotes:

“combined Portland’s two most quintessential elements: whiskey and weirdness”

“Whiskey and bagpipes share a rich cultural history, and much like what I did with the pipes, this libation is my attempt at putting a unique Portland spin on whiskey”

I'm not testifying today, and it's just as well. Nobody wants to hear two minutes of my "you should vote for the Morillo Amendments, but ..." takes today.

Kind of wild that while food assistance was withheld from millions of families, one Trump-supporting billionaire (Ellison) saw his net worth grow more this year than the entire SNAP budget. And the YTD gains of the other four richest men would’ve fully covered salaries for all 2M federal employees.

I think this is right, but the firehose of shit is so far being met mainly by a hundred different sump pumps of resistance manned by lawyers in federal court. Other than maybe DSA, nobody’s yet acquired and deployed the pressure washers we all know we need for midterms.
what if the firehose of fascist shit isn't wiping out the memory of the electorate? what if it's just hitting different things? and idk it seems like a persisting problem to me that dems aren't in lockstep with and fully tied to no kings, possibly the biggest social movement in american history

I had quite a few opportunities to work with, and sometimes against, Reggie during many environmental battles in 90s-00s Baltimore. But my truest Reggie experience was in my law school landlord-tenant clinic defending against evictions. My fellow student co-counsel and I had a horrific case. 1/x

Indeed. The idea that @councilormorillo.bsky.social's amendment is a huge problem is just nutty in this context.
The idea that this vote hinges on whether people think sweeps are good or bad is so bizarre to me. If the Mayor and CA want to do sweeps, then wouldn’t finding the money to pay for it be the first step? They propose to blow through their Contingency because they don’t have the money.

This is really helpful analysis. I’d like to think we could learn some lessons here, but we’re going to have the same Dem senators in January. And the same good/bad/crazy cop Republicans
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

Caving is bad enough. Caving and calling it a win is so much worse.
King: So I believe that we are closer tonight to a vote on the ACA tax credits than we were this morning. This agreement tonight is a win for the American people.

So here's another odd housekeeping-ish thing in the Finance Committee tomorrow afternoon. The item explains exactly what it does, and (kinda) why. But, to me, it seems to be missing a key piece of information. 1/2

See also: This week's Council item authorizing $41M in revenue bonds to finance city fleet maintenance facility needs. This funding is absolutely necessary, but it would be nice to put this in context and timeline of *all* the needs and *all* the indebtedness.

Here's another Council item I'll be tracking this week. This one is a resolution from @councilordanryan.bsky.social to establish an annual strategic priority setting process for the Council. And although I could nitpick it a bit, it's a good idea. 🧵

Seems like Mayor Wilson forgot to mention that he doesn’t have the money to pay for this stuff. Contingency isn’t revenue, it’s just a rainy day fund. The best case scenario is that it delays cuts that need to be made later. In this case, from the Fall to the Spring...

Guys, there's more than 12 pages citing like a dozen dictionaries from more than a 100 years ago, and recounting the history of three different non-Civil War rebellions, to get to the operative legal definition of the terms "rebellion" and "danger of rebellion."
