The public made noise for Liam Ramos and it got him released from Dilley.

Now we must make noise for 7 year old Diana Crespo.

Her parents were taking her for emergency medical care when ICE grabbed them, and she’s rotting in the camp sick and exposed to measles.

Get them out!

The math of this protest doesn't add up:
1.We are in a housing crisis.
2.The City Council has little jurisdiction over ICE compared to the DA, AG, or Feds.

Shutting down the Housing Committee achieves ZERO FUCKING progress on immigration while hurting our most vulnerable neighbors.
Shutting down the Housing and Homelessness Committee to demand city council do something they can't do is the definition of "performative"

Of all the offices that hold power here -- Mayor, District Attorney, AG, federal representatives -- city council holds the least amount of power over ICE.

This is who federal agents are ripping out of their communities and shipping across the country. This is the danger we're being protected from.

It is a big problem that the safer places are also EXPENSIVE places. I want Portland to treat this like emergency it is. We need to protect our queer siblings who came to our city as a last resort

Solidarity with Minneapolis.

Rest in peace Renee Good.

We will fight like hell for those who stand in solidarity with immigrants. We will fight like hell for immigrants, documented and undocumented alike. We will love our neighbors.

ICE must be abolished.

Especially in this age of nightmarish transit cuts wouldn’t it be nice if we made it possible for more neighbors with average incomes to live in the neighborhoods that still have service/have some of the best biking in the country??
In Portland, we can allow people to make those choices for themselves by re-legalizing building affordable, smaller but still family size homes in inner neighborhoods! (portlandneighborswelcome.org/inner-eastsi...)

Four floors and corner stores would make Portland's inner neighborhoods even better.

The persistent belief that a previous version of Portland was perfect feeds the idea that our best days are behind us. It's inherently conservative, a nostalgic obsession that's little more than a Make Portland Great Again philosophy.

We've gotta define a compelling vision of the future.

Just spitballing here but how about a family friendly Portland where there is housing childcare and healthcare for all, dignified work for all who seek it, a strong safety net for those who can’t or don’t work traditional jobs (like artists) and infrastructure for livability mobility and resilience?

I suspect there is a high correlation between people who think apartments should never be sold individually (“we don’t need more condos, we need affordable housing,” meaning deed-restricted and owned by nonprofits) and people who believe single-family houses shouldn’t be rented out
A lot of Blueskiers are going to dismiss this observation because of the source, but it is correct. I'll just add that I don't think there's anything special about single-family homes that means they should never be rentals, any more than there's a rule that multifamily units should never be condos.

Really makes you think 🤔
For context: the exact same parcel size as a typical single family house in Portland’s inner neighborhoods.
the tallest mass timber building in oregon is holst's julia west house, built by walsh.

it sits on a 5,000 sf parcel.

no, that's not missing a zero.

Subtweeting the discourse: I personally avoid negativity about people’s homes! 5 over 1s could be improved but many people live in them and like it! They are not for everyone, but they work well for plenty of people.
