Oral arguments are beginning for the challenge against the initiative petition to divert 25% of Portland Clean Energy Fund income to public safety/police hiring. Challengers argue the petition, which is supported by the Portland Police Association, violates the state constitution.

AOC: "Extreme level of wealth inequality leads to social instability and drives authoritarianism, right-wing populism, and really dangerous domestic internal politics. That is a direct outcome of the failure of democracies over decades to deliver."

I, for one, am glad that we have a socialist economist in office when these ghouls come back around to try and loot the public coffers
we’re going to see a full court press to just shovel piles of public money into into private hands under conditions of duress. we’re already there and today’s state of the economy report is a key marker for entering a new stage, i think.

The Oregonian (probably through its parent company) seems really bent on using AI to produce more and more of its product in recent years. Looks like AI is now narrating some stories for them.

A new Oregon initiative petition just dropped. Petitioner Shakur Hussein (who is also suing TriMet for wrongful termination) wants to get something on the ballot in the Nov 2026 election that would require TriMet’s Board and CEO to be elected, rather than appointed by the governor.

It’s hard to overstate how many social and environmental problems could basically be solved by creating a world class public transportation network in this city/state/country and fully subsidizing it as a necessary public good.
Rep. Boshart Davis also wants to limit state transit funding only to transit agencies that can prove they have a farebox recovery ratio of 50% or more. Looks like a clear ploy to freeze out TriMet, since their current ratio is about 7%.
