Morillo’s biographer will discover that one day she was pushed too far and just decided to go John Wick on the entire political system. The rest is history.
Fantasy? Sounds like a skills issue. This is just how I live and breathe every day.
The John Wick series is so effective because it fully embodies the three major tenets of dumb guy fantasy: 1. being able to kick anyone’s ass, 2. living by a code of honor, and 3. paying for things with gold coins

I just heard someone say on TV that use of the term "concentration camps" to describe ICE facilities was "very strong language."
I think ICE's concentration camps are very strong abuses of human rights.

There are so many top quality food options in Portland. Why are you waiting in long lines on the regular?!
I’ve always felt like avoiding waiting in lines for food was an important portland survival strategy but it occurs to me that there must be people here who feel the opposite way. every minute of the half hour they spend in line for a slice of pie confirms they’re in the right place

A simple ? from Wajahat Ali pushes Hakeem Jeffries into a crashout:

"Why not lead and abolish ICE? What you're telling us is you want our taxpayer dollars to pay for a lawless masked armed agency to continue terrorizing our cities."

Jeffries: "I don't understand anything you just said to me."

Good interview.

Went to bed last night thinking about the New Model Army.
This was such a special interview to conduct: the first in two episodes with historian Peter Linebaugh on the long histories of commons and commoning, connections between enclosures in Europe and imperial conquest abroad, and writing history from below. www.thedigradio.com/podcast/the-...

Another ‘millionaires tax’ finds Seattle is far richer than anyone knew
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson last week described the city as “filthy rich.” Impolitic as that may be, returns from a new tax on high pay packages show she’s not wrong.

Motion to give Terry Harris all the Negronis he wants
I had to look this up (and this seems SUPER-complicated, beyond my expertise, and I've had a negroni) so yes, $934 per month per violation doesn't seem like much..

..BUT it seems to unlock the "Reconsideration of Land Use Approvals" in code section 33.700.040

Portland isn't changing course on carrying out its land use violation against the ICE building.

It occurred to me recently that the people who most likely struck the deal for the state preemption on future PCEFs (gross receipts taxes) during the Student Success Act negotiations were Laurie Wimmer and Julia Brim Edwards.

IIRC, Wimmer was lobbying for OEA & JBE was lobbying for Nike.

This is probably not shocking coming from a socialist but IMO the non-profits that steward PCEF would insulate it from constant attack & make it toxic to even come near if they supported dedicating a portion to a big universal social good like public power, social housing, or public transit.
"PCEF isn't your money. It's our money. We built the fund. We will never let it go." - Alan Hipolito, a very well-respected climate justice advocate delivered testimony that basically told councilors to get their frickin' hands off the PCEF $$ and do what the committee recommended.
