My mother was the breadwinner in the family, first to get a college degree in the family, and when she was pregnant with me her boss came into her office, told her that she'd never be the same accountant again, and fired her on the spot. That was in nineteen eighty two

Adam Corolla is the textbook example of why divorce protections are important for nonworking spouses - he used to brag routinely on his show about how his wife didn't have to work because he earned so much. It was a point of pride for him that she quit her job when they got married.
They used to wiretap your phones to collect this kind of information from you but now you pay for a Bluecheck and post it yourself

Literally nothing this week vis a vis Schumer and legislative strategy will change that we're just going to end up here again in Feb 2026, literally nothing is 'resolved'

Great system we have there
so, today I got the surgery center where I got my deviated septum fixed to send me an itemized bill so I could submit to my FSA for reimbursement
my out of pocket cost: $473
what my insurance paid: $4258
what they tried to charge my insurance (not a misprint): $173692

I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

there is no reason that AIPAC would want to buy an end to the shutdown, but unconditional support for Israel as it plunges off a right-wing cliff and chronic Senate brain in the face of fascism are both kinds of toxic nostalgia which powerful, elderly morons wrap around themselves like warm blankets

I mean I sleep in a big bed with my wife, my kids love me, and my dick works, of course I'm happier than Elon Musk
Found the tweet that Joyce Carol Oates bodied Elon Musk with and it's so beautiful in its eloquent, simple take down. So much so he's crashing out trying to prove he reads books now. Put this in the Louvre.

I can blab about the actual damages and pain from the hemp industry, I’ve got threads on this app about the problems of it. but when we get down to asking “what are the actual/trackable harms from unfettered baloney weed markets?”… and it doesn’t come close to 1/50th the impact of regulated booze.

lmao if they're actually saying FSA explicitly then they are on purpose for real trying to crash the US healthcare system
FSA is worse than HSA. They are not portable and the unused funds expire rather than roll over at the end of the year.

there is some tension between the (correct) level of apocalypticism on this site about food aid running out and the unwillingness to make any compromises in service of making it not run out
