oh and one more thing

what comes after America
i do think there's a systematic problem with how Dems are approaching fundraising but Rs have the same problem way worse with small-dollar donors. my prior is that after nominees are set and matchups firm up there will be a ton of money, but maybe not
This is a huge deal. After years of leading in fundraising, Dem small donors are (rightly) pissed off at the spam texts and emails, as well as at congressional leadership. Meanwhile, GOP billionaire money is hitting record levels. Perfect storm.

it’s cool they’re very good at identifying targets
Seems the Pentagon is testing anti-drone high-energy lasers near Fort Bliss in El Paso, and didn't feel this was dangerous enough to close airspace over.

The FAA administrator disagreed.

Last week, these lasers successfully protected the American people from a sinister children's party balloon.
Airspace closure followed spat over drone-related tests and party balloon shoot-down, sources say
Pentagon officials had undertaken planning to use military technology near Fort Bliss, in El Paso, to practice downing drones.

dear peace monks, you don’t know me but DO NOT GET ON THAT BUS
Incredibly honored to welcome the Buddhist monks completing their Walk for Peace in Washington, D.C. this morning.

Their courage and compassion are a powerful reminder of what leadership should look like. May their journey challenge Congress to choose peace, dignity, and unity.

it really gets my goat that people are dragging Anthropic for employing philosophers. like, what did you think those guys (gend neutral) were for
it is difficult for me to overstate the degree to which "reinvented moral philosophy from first principles badly" is a huge component of the problem. the most conspicuously ethical AI company is the one with the actual trained philosopher in a position of authority

Starcountr is now a bot and also is now named Starcountr.

To generate a moderately-sloppy summary of answers to a viral prompt-- "what's the greatest 90s album", things of that nature-- just @starcountr.bsky.social in the prompt's replies and it'll crawl replies and QTs recursive to produce ~this
Starcounter Results - Top 5 Mentions
1. The Hunt for Red October (113), 2. Master and Commander (97), 3. The Fugitive (84), 4. Heat (65), 5. Tombstone (45)

Bluesky in a nutshell.

Some context: BLS released its jobs numbers today, which were better than expected, and resistance libs would rather stay mad/conspiratorial than listen to actual on-the-ground experts that the data is still reliable.

the low-trust/high-trust framework needs a little elaboration, i think, or maybe everyone else already realized this and it just occured to me:

1) many generally-low-trust voters have very high trust within their affinity group
2) social media has reoriented affinity groups away from demographics

as someone who frequently QTs and who frequently gets replies from strangers arguing with the QT or the subject of the QT, figuring out when people are doing that (easy) and not letting it annoy you (impossible) are very important poster mental hygiene strategies
this is one of my biggest pet peeves on this website: rose does a riff based on what shes quoting, and instead of attempting to continue the riff the top reply ignores what rose said so they can answer a reddit post

I just want to say I've been talking for six months about a potential reacceleration in labor demand this year and this is the first major release that validates that thesis other than weekly claims data. Pleased.

Can confirm! When mange came to my neighborhood squirrel population, I effectively used ivermectin to treat infected rodents and in about a month we stopped seeing mange in the critters.

No flights would be allowed to or from the airport for 10 days under a flight restriction order that cited unspecified “special security reasons.”

Lyons says ICE agents actually "took care" of 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos when they detained him, before shipping him off to a horrific Texas ICE facility.

He says ICE officers "comforted him" as they chased his dad, put him in their car to play "his favorite music, then took him to McDonalds."

very much of a piece with the logic of family separation as a deterrent to immigration
But they’re also routinely holding people way more than 30 days after a final order and not providing adequate medical treatment.

Part of the strategy to use detention to get people to abandon claims for relief is upping the risk of death.

After "this out of touch liberal multiculturalism will fail" didn't pan out - BB's show set ratings records and is the most talked-about part of the super bowl - they are desperately pivoting to a blatant lie that "it was successful because it wasn't political"
Analysis: Weeks before he set foot on the stage, Bad Bunny’s halftime performance had already become a media event.

But if you were looking for political commentary, the closest that you got was when he said “God bless America” in English.

everyone around this Seahawks team says the vibes are great.

now, the relationship between great vibes and winning is uncertain and bidirectional.

but if Rodgers were on the team, the vibes would not be great.
Idly wondering how far the 2025 Seahawks get with Aaron Rodgers

Guys. Guys.

In 1 Sam 25:22, there’s a term that gets translated as “male,”

But the Hebrew literally says משתּין בּקיר, (mashtin b’kir) which literally means “one who urinates on the wall.” #Hebrew #Torah #Jewish #Bible
