Good piece with a bleak kicker: "Those of us paying attention are, for now, stuck—bombarded with enough troubling information and allegations to assume the worst about this conspiracy, but also possessing enough earned cynicism and suspicion to assume that little will change."
In theory, I want to give you more detail about my column, but I'm also struggling to find anything more concise than: We Live in Hell.

the lede of my column today is about being with my family this week and trying bat away the truly awful, traumatic shit being fed into my parents feeds about this (a lot of which isn't even accurate!)
one lesser awful thing about the Epstein files is that genuine crimes against a huge number of children are being morphed into fuel for the influencer industrial complex who don't care about truth or accuracy and just want grist for the content mills

it is absolutely maximumly chaotic that there are an absurd amount of likely unnecessary redactions in all these files and then also just throwing out unconfirmed FBI Intake tipline stuff w/ no context about how/if it was vetted or what. just wild stuff.

this is insane to me. the doj had forever to look into this. now they're like liveblogging on x like they have no more information than a random person on social media

truly what could a satirist make up that would be dumber and funnier than the White House East Wing sponsored by Roblox and defense contractors

...wh..at....
It's hard to tell what's actually happening in the video that purports to show Epstein's suicide but 1) the video is hosted at justice.gov and 2) it's in a directory called Data Set 8, which would be the next release.

It looks fake to me, but that doesn't explain why it's on the real DOJ site.

In this special “Galaxy Brain” episode, @cwarzel.bsky.social is joined by @isaacstanleybecker.bsky.social and @adriennelaf.bsky.social to talk about the newly released Epstein files. They share their findings, address the political fallout, and explore what—if anything—can be learned:
What Is Actually in the Epstein Files?
The heavily redacted trove of documents is shocking, disorienting, and—most important—incomplete.

A few weeks ago when CNN partnered w/ Kalshi & the company raised $1 billion & its CEO said the goal was to “financialize everything” I wanted to do a pod that looked at prediction markets & how they fit into our broader culture/politics/economy where it all feels like a casino. This one is v good!
really really enjoyed talking about this with the great @maxread.info felt like we got to a place at the end where some broader attention economy stuff locked into place! www.theatlantic.com/podcasts/202...
