Now I'm a dummy but it really feels to me like there has to be an entire relatively broad-based winning politics based around being in opposition to *just this one sliver* of what the Trump administration is doing right here www.nytimes.com/2025/11/08/b...

Ian is somebody who I am lucky enough to chat w/ most days. His brain works in fascinating ways and he's always somebody who is challenging my thinking and explaining things that delight me. His gift is a knack for helping us understand how the tools we use change us. Genuinely excited to read this.

"This [moment] has left some with the feeling that the cheapest, most craven campaign strategies end up being the most successful. In meaningful ways, Mamdani’s campaign was a case study to prove whether a more optimistic and human approach could work in our political moment. He proved that it can."

Bad AI supplanting human expertise is an issue that transcends any one field, but man—not many people on earth whose knowledge and dedication deserves respect like LIBRARIANS.
The long-running ideological war on libraries, education, and government workers is not separate from AI boosterism. It is the same ideological war on human knowledge and expertise. In some cases AI is being used to directly supercharge this effort:

They threaten to compound the problems of algorithmic targeting that have festered unaddressed for years and years—what comes next may be even more alienating and isolating (🎁)

if there's one thing to take away from the nyc election it is that you should never commit to an idea unless it is sufficiently tested to be popular or...even if it does seem popular...you should probably wait...just to see. because it's important to have the data bc you don't wanna go out on a limb
