I don’t mean to dilute Stella’s message, but I want to add that Elián González grew up to be a member of the Cuban National Assembly. “I will fight from whatever trench the revolution demands.”
There is no “bright side” to the trauma we are inflicting. But revolutionaries are being made every day.

Remember 25 years ago when a photo was taken of a fed pointing a gun at a crying refugee child and the image was so shameful it dominated the news cycle for a year

who are the comms people letting the cavers and their supporters get this much media time/thread posting? They somehow managed to lose the left, the center, third way, and Cilizza in the same moronic play and we're supposed to listen to how quite literally everyone is wrong actually?

Watching the clips of pastors clapping back at that woman calling around for formula after they said they wouldn't help & giving sermons about how it's not their "obligation" to help the community and I wish I was surprised

Spending Bill Would Pave Way for Senators to Sue Over Phone Searches
Republicans have voiced outrage that Jack Smith looked at G.O.P. lawmakers’ phone records surrounding the Jan. 6 attack. Legislation to reopen the government would allow them to sue for $500,000 each.

I don't doubt this is the process, but it is a bit wild to read something that's like yeah the odd tummy ache or if one of the judges overbooked themselves can have a bigger influence on the lit prize than the work itself but isn't it all such a fun part of the human experience -

Sometimes I think about the genre of travel articles where Americans go abroad and are shaken to their core by having to shop at a Spar - those people are gonna really enjoy Kroger when it has a random assortment of things that survived the tariffs but nothing they want

The thing is there is always some reason why they need to cave and at a certain point the only conclusion to draw is that they were always going to cave because they don't actually want to win or help they just want to make it feel like they aren't selling you out for a little while
